Given how some other figures of influence have acted, along with the protesters. Yeah, I'm pretty much at the love it or leave it point. Sorry if that upsets you and that's not my persona in general, but given how things are going it's hard to not look at everything that happens at this point in time objectively.

It's a problem that bothers many people in the country - like racism. Many people are vocal about it. You said that celebrities have influence and should be quiet.

 

I'm just seeing if you are consistent OR (as I suspect) it's the actual issue that bothers you more than the people who speak on it.

It is absolutely possible to recognize that America is the greatest, most free country in the world, and still acknowledge that she has warts of her own. It's okay, and IMO patriotic, to strive to make our great country even greater.

Fun story: We were at 4-H camp back in the mid-80s. Two of our local group, one of them one of my best friends at the time, were called on to raise the flag one morning.

 

They screwed up, and hung it upside down. Most of the kids assembled had a chuckle when they saw the flag raised (accidentally) to indicate distress.

 

One of the camp counselors, a passionate and well-meaning type, took exception to everybody laughing, yelling, "If y'all don't like 'Murica, y'all can just git!"

 

As though we were laughing at the flag and country, and not the fact that our buddies had an embarrassing public screw-up. I couldn't resist pointing out his silliness, and could barely keep from laughing when he challenged me back like he was going to beat me up.

I believe they do.

It doesn't take two brain cells to complain about something....and only one to blame it on someone else.

 

The opportunities in our country are there for ALL who CHOOSE a path of success - education, perseverance, respect and making good choices. There are many, however, who I understand can't see that path because it is obscured by their circumstances, the culture of their family situation, etc. Rather than complaining that this is done TO them, these public figures should encourage the people listening to them that there IS a way to success, but one has to take it.
