I would think Corbin might be the favorite against MF, with Mr. KY Football Candidate Trajon Bright out so a Corbin win maybe more likely than not.

 

Stilll no Bright, huh? Then that would certainly play into the postgame evaluation of Corbin, positive or negative.

No, Knoxville Catholic is one of the best teams in Tennessee, which I think Belfry can beat this year. A Corbin win over Mayfield would be impressive too, guess we will have to wait and see how the games turn out .

No flame intended but I am not sure Corbin has ever even played a team the caliber of Knoxville Catholic in their storied history during the regular season.

 

I want to say they played Moeller once though. I know Mo came to their bowl at least once, just not sure they played each other

No, Belfry should stay at the top regardless of this weekend. They are the best team by far in 3A and arguably one of the top 5 or so in all classes.

 

Corbin has played and beaten some very good teams in the past, including ending a very long Highlands winning streak and defeating Louisville Flaget when they were considered the best team in the state.

The way I look at it is how do we think, right now, does Belfry match up with Corbin? I think they would be a decent favorite against them or anyone else in 3A regardless of this weekend's result. So with that logic, I would keep the Pirates at number 1. I think a win by Corbin over Mayfield would just keep solidifying Corbin as a legitimate threat in 3a.

As an avid Redhound fan, nothing would please me more than seeing that #1 next to Corbin in the polls. However, the only poll which matters it the one at the end of the year. While Corbin is a phenomenal team with one of the better defenses that I've seen in a while, there is no denying that Belfry is the prohibitive favorite when it comes to 3A football in Kentucky. You can flip flop the rankings all you want, but Belfry has already proven their worth.

 

I do think that Corbin is the clear #2, but it will take a performance of epic proportions for Corbin to beat them. Plus, there is no guarantee of that matchup ever happening. That being said, anything can happen. In 1996, Breathitt County was 1 and Corbin was 2. Breathitt won the title that year but I will forever say that Corbin was the best 2A team in the state. Unfortunately, Corbin got upset by a Madison Southern team that they destroyed just a few weeks prior in the second round preventing that Breathitt showdown from ever happening.
