If you have decent grades they typically get you down to the cost of going to UK. Which offers hardly any academic funds.

Great question. The golf league is over or I would ask LOL.

This is what programs outside of D1 and 1AA have been doing for decades. If you have ever been to a small college game, you would realize they aren't making a ton of money off gate sales. Each player gets free tickets for families and students get into games free. The way small college football programs are funded is because of the added enrollment the team brings to campus.

 

Lots of times college coaches will pull strings and bring in more players in order to get more funding or assistant coach raises...it's all part of the business.

 

With that said, most of these small colleges put together fairly competitive financial packages that are about equal to what it would cost to send your kid to a state institution. Cost of college at State schools is getting really high as well...

Glad that there are D3 programs so kids can continue to chase their dreams as long as they understand the cost and what the financial realities are in the long term.

I drive by University of the Cumberlands a couple times a month. They are a monster facility focusing on the sports as a source of gaining students.

7 deep at every position. They must have a huge practice area to get all those kids their reps in.

 

It's a business I get it, but no way would I want to be involved with a program playing on some kids dreams of playing college football when I know that him and 75 others will never see the field and I'm only doing it for his cash.

Do we think all 70 of them think they'll be a starter next year? Hopefully the staff is honest with them and has identified their strengths/weaknesses and has provided a realistic view of the future.

If a kid is going to TMC and thinks they can play there they better be a good football player. Luke Zaja was a stud at Dixie and he barely got playng time as a Freshman same with WR Logan Winkler their first year at TMC. They are both getting some playing time as Sophomores this year.

 

It's the norm not to get a lot if any playing time as a freshman. That isn't the problem. It is great they got in a couple plays here and there as a freshman, I'm talking about the ones who will only dress JV until possibly their senior year if they hang around that long.

I don'tr know about home games because the number that can dress for home games is more even though only a certain amount can actually play, but away games it's around 70 that can travel with the team.

7 deep is a little on the lenient side. I know for a fact a couple years ago they had 29 WR's on the roster. That is just 1 position I know about. I would think they are a lot deeper than 7 at many positions.

Guess the only advice I can give to some kids who want to play at the next level and are pretty good on their varisty teams now, choose wisely. Don't pick a school for their football team, please always pick it based on academics and your major. Then you can sift through the schools on your list who are interested in you and pick one that fits your playing abilities. If you want to actually play in college on Varsity team just know there are plenty out there that doesn't have the money grab mentality so it's up to you to fit your college choice that fits you and your vision the best.
