Shout out to @lawildcat, @TAC, @BirdBrain and @Mustang for the early morning appearance this mourning.

I was going to come over and introduce myself, TAC told me who you were but they told us to take the court right after we were done with our first game so I didn't have time to do it. Hopefully will catch you on another Saturday morning here soon. How did the Mustangs and St. Henry look this morning? I wasn't able to see any of that game.

 

We (Brossart) hung with them for a half. St. Henry is very good and have obviously played together before. Brossart is a mixed bag of incoming freshmen from several different schools, pretty much free-lancing it. We got some nice individual performances from several players. This will be a good unit once indoctrinated into the Brossart defensive scheme of things.

@BigVMan23 - just an FYI for your travels here this Saturday! I'm sorry to say we won't be able to make it this Saturday or next Saturday!

 

Hey I-71/I-75 NB users in Kenton County Peeps!

 

We are switching traffic over to the new pavement this weekend!

 

Beginning 10 PM September 16th (Friday night), traffic will be reduced to ONE lane NB for a traffic switch. The lane restrictions will be in place ALL WEEKEND. Traffic will be restored to 3 NB lanes by 6 AM September 19th (Monday morning). There will be intermittent ramp closures during overnight hours on the ramps from I-275 EB and WB to I-75 NB and the exit and entrance ramps at Buttermilk Pike. Long Delays can be expected. Drivers should consider alternate routes. Crews will then continue to work on the section once the switch is made. Please be mindful that the speed limit is 45 MPH. KY 236 (Donaldson Road) will remain closed through October. Kentucky State Police is patrolling the area to increase driver attention, monitor speed and to keep tractor trailer trucks out of the contraflow lane. Traffic will be back in its original configuration of the $15.1 million project in advance of the December completion date.

Went out to catch @BigVMan23's squad this morning.

 

Game 1 was a double digit victory over St. Henry frosh.

Game 2 was against Bishop Brossart, and the Stangs built a 36-23 lead with about 10 minutes remaining in the 2nd half. BigV calls a timeout to read his team the "riot act", and they respond by going on a 28-6 run to close it out. :eek: Final 51-42.

 

Pretty impressive considering these kids get up at 6:00 a.m., leave Lawrenceburg at 6:45 and drive an hour and a half to Erlanger, then have to play back to back games (5 minute break between games).........with only 6 players. However, when you have the second coming of John Wooden coaching you, what else should you expect. :lol2:

 

Got to sit and chat with @Mustang during the Anderson Co./Brossart tilt. :thumb:

 

1st time in the facilities at Griffin Elite, very nice.

 

BTW, I ponied up 3 ducets to get in, forgot my clipboard at home. :lol2:

If the boys ever put it all together, and play a whole game the way they did the last 10 minutes we might just be dangerous. Speaking of coach Wooden, look for some old-style UCLA sets in the near future.

Went 1-1 this Saturday. Had one of our kids break his ankle early in the first game, had to finish the day with only 5...missing my 2 guards (one of which is our best player), both on a cruise to Mexico. Was lucky to even have an extra player, picked up a kid to go with us just to have 6 so our kids could at least come out for a breather. Union beat us by I believe 14 in a game that was closer than that most of the way, but with only 5 kids and missing our two ball handlers we just made too many mistakes/turnovers to be able to pull it off.

 

Left that game, immediately took the other court and came out on fire against Ryle Raiders. Got up big in the first half, built lead to 22 before they hit a flurry of 3 pointers in the closing minutes along with some untimely, horrible turnovers by us. Some of that had to do with my kids getting pretty fatigued by that point, but we held on to win by 10 I believe it was.

 

We should be back to almost full strength next weekend minus our kid with the broken ankle (he is out 4-6 weeks), both my guards will be back from fall break. Have 2 Saturdays left, hoping we will get after it and win out.

Congratulations to you and your team so far this season! Having coached for many years in the past I know all too well of the issues that coaches have to deal with, especially today. It takes a special, caring and sincere person to coach a youth sports team in today's world!

 

Good luck in remaining games! Is Griffin Elite the only season your have? Or do you continue in others leagues and tourneys?
