Who wins and why?

Purples are pretty much a freight train right now. Scary part is that St X accomplished their goal of shutting the Purples ground attack. Problem is our passing game and spread is even better than our running game.

 

Purple88 reminded me during St X game that is very true. I think Dragonfire would agree; not many teams, if any, adjust after halftime better than the Purples. St X had 10 at the half and ended the game with 10. How many teams could have their running game held in check the entire game and still beat a team as good as St X by 3 TDs?

 

I predict that the 31 points Purples scored last week will be their lowest production all year.

I do agree. It's a testament to the staff and execution of the players. They won't have to show off that skill often this year. In fact, this may be the only time they have to.

 

I agree, it's another running clock. McCracken is the only game left that I have doubt in them getting a running clock. Maybe, MAYBE, Central Hardin won't, but I think they get that one too.

I would just like to give props to Owensboro for continuing this rivalry. The Red Devils and Warren Central are the ONLY teams that continue to schedule us no matter what class the other has been in. The Purples have had the upper hand lately, but it hasn't always been that way. I hope they can right the ship sooner than later. Purples should roll in this game, but it is a rivalry.

I like BG big in this one....I like BG big in just about all of them for that matter. Hoping my Mustangs are polished enough by Oct 28th to make it a respectable game this year. Jamale Carothers is one of my favorite players in the state, from what I read he's a great kid off the field.... and his on the field play speaks for itself! As a veteran I really respect his decision to go to the Naval Academy . Looking good forward to him doing great things there!! BG 48-14 in this one

Always have and always will have respect for this series. Any year is a tough year to go to Rash Stadium and not feel threatened. That place is probably one of the best/most intimidating places to play. BG is on a roll, but anything can happen on a Friday night. Hoping for another great rivalry game and can't wait to pig out at Moonlight BBQ.

It's hard to believe, but it's been 16 years since Owensboro beat Bowling Green in Rash. They've lost to them there five straight times. I was a junior in high school that year, and was actually there at that game. It's an intimidating place, but Bowling Green, it sure doesn't phase them.....

 

Bowling Green has won 24 of the last 30 meetings between the two. Three of Owensboro's wins came in 1999 and 2000 (including that last win at Rash), when they had Justin Miller and Bo Smith.

That's when we had real rivalries. Owensboro, Warren Central, and Franklin Simpson were never a sure thing. The Purples program has gotten so good, that they don't have true rival right now. St. X has turned out to be our closest rival, but we have beaten them 5 of the last 6 years. I miss the old days. It's lonely at the top

Purple adoptee, be careful what you wish for. I'd much rather be destroying every opponent on the schedule than losing to Owensboro Catholic. Enjoy this time. Savor every single play.

 

As for this game....I honestly thought OHS could possibly make it a game for a bit. After last Friday, this is probably going to be a running clock in the first quarter. OHS is making far too many mistakes right now to compete with BG. Some of that is the youth of OHS. The Devils are extremely young in spots and it shows, especially on defense. The other part of that is the mistakes from the coaching staff. OHS' coaches aren't doing their best to put players in a position to make plays on the field. Before people get all upset at me over saying that, coach Jay Fallin actually said that exact same thing in the Messenger-Inquirer on Saturday. The good news is, coach Fallin recognizes it and that is the first step to fixing it.

 

From top to bottom I think OHS isn't that far removed from BG from a shear talent standpoint. BG has a massive advantage at QB which drastically opens their playbook up. OHS may not have a deangelo Wilson at WR but they have some speed in their own right in Raishwan Washington and Trevor Washington. OHS will need to show trips to get some BG defenders out of the box to open up a lane for Landon Board. If BG still stacks the box, hit the quick screen.

 

OHS will struggle to stop BG at all on defense. I do think OHS will continue to improve on defense as the season moves along considering that the youth of OHS.

 

As for Friday, I hope OHS can be competitive but I just can't see it with all the mistakes.

There is a reason Purple fans have such a deep respect for those two teams and that is a big part of it. Both Central and Owensboro have a rich hostory and are rivals I will always hold in high regard. Now we just need Central to get some help from the County and rebuild their program to where it belongs, back at towards the top!

It'd be nice to see the Trinity series renewed if your tired of beating everyone on the schedule.

I would love to see the Purples play Trinity every year, but I think the coaches are the reason that we don't. Winning as a fan is great, but it's overrated. When the game is over by halftime, it takes a lot of the game away. Running clocks and blowouts sure are boring to watch. Give me a dog fight anytime!
