Traditional NCC families have a lot to do with that. I remember the Sandfoss's Rob and Jim. Both great athletes and could have played on any Nky team but went to NCC because that is where their family went. And they lived in Silver Grove or Camp Springs or somewhere out by the dairy bar.

Jimmy grew up in Cold Spring and went to St Joes. Robby went to St Philips in Melbourne. He was from the Grove.

 

As for the athletes, many come from Ft Thomas Catholic families. Holy Trinity is contributing quite a few lately, which makes me happy as a Holy Spirit and St Francis de Sales kid. There are a few reasons that NewCath can field competitive teams with less numbers. 1. The parochial schools generally have good youth coaching in bball, the Jr. High team is well coached, and there are small enough numbers on those rosters where all kids play competitive minutes through 8th grade. Kids don't get weeded out in 5th grade like they do at public schools. Therefore, a higher percentage of students are still athletes entering high school. 2. Kids coming from the public schools in 9th grade certainly helps, but those are very small in number. 3. Most importantly, kids grow up hearing about NewCath greats and special sports moments and dream of being part of it. I know I certainly did.

This. I spent two years at Campbell County after deciding against NewCath, and I have friends from both schools who go to games with me on Friday nights. This was a very entertaining game. There was more room on the Campbell side, so that's where we sat, and the crowd reaction at the score in the closing seconds was fantastic. I think it would have been the same had we been sitting in the NewCath section a few minutes earlier. Incredibly entertaining game that I think benefits NewCath more that Campbell, but a win over an old rival is a great feeling no matter the size disparity.

Also, on the 4th down pass that gave the Camels a 1st down under 30 seconds to go, from my POV, the receiver ran his route into the defender, plus I don't think that ball was remotely catchable.......yes or no?

 

I think the receiver slowed up and legs got tangled. The ball was probably not catchable, but close enough, hence the call. Could have gone either way.

The Breds DL Hughes is a mighty mite. He might be the smallest D lineman you'll see all year but he plays big and never quits. I admire his tenacity.

No. Brossart has had a football program for 8 years or so and NCC has been to the Finals what 8 of the last 9 years? The numbers now (approximately 40-45 Soph/Jrs/Srs) has been the same throughout the 2000s. There is a world of difference between the 2A District Brossart was in and the 1A District they are in now that has allowed them to be more competitive in District play.

I want to know what the count was on vulgarities launched from the NCC faithful after the pass interference call. I'm guessing that call didn't sit too well.

 

Congrats Camels on the win and NCC just keep doing what you have been doing the last several years. They always start off the season with tough games and some losses but finish strong. Next week will not be any easier with Belfry.
