If that's the reason, as long as the student is never allowed to set foot in the building again, cool. As a parent who entrusts the school to keep your kids safe, you deserve to know though.

So what happens when the info comes out as the kid just had the gun on him... No motive, no real reason other than he's a stupid kid, he just made a mistake.

I don't think letting parents know why the gun was there (whether just to show off, or for a nefarious purpose) and that the situation will not be an ongoing issue is asking too much. If you don't think parents deserve to know that info, we'll just have to disagree.

Let me rephrase, I hear what you are saying but no way that is the case.

 

The crime is having the gun on campus. The kid only helps himself by cooperating at this point unless he was there to murder another student/teacher and if that is the case it definitely needs to be made public.

 

Then nothing needs to be made public if you know what I mean.

Based on comments here, the school is in a no win situation. Divulge all that they know, possible legal implications. Don't divulge all that they know, public persecution.

Dear Parents,

 

This afternoon, students at Highlands High School alerted school administrators that another student was in possession of a weapon. The administration promptly investigated this report, determined it to be true, and took appropriate action. At no time did the student involved make any specific threat toward students or staff. Fort Thomas Police have been notified and are conducting further investigation.

 

Everyone involved in this situation followed proper emergency procedure protocol to ensure the safety of all students and staff. We are thankful for the bravery of the students who came forward to report this incident.

Then I have a feeling you're going to have several situations that you aren't going to be satisfied with. May need to home school, to be honest. You're rarely going to get that kind of clarity from a school.
