This game was billed as a prime time matchup last season and the Jumpers didn't show up. Somerset has a long standing history of losing to the northern part of the state. Can the jumpers get over the hump? They're much better but Beechwood is obviously still Beechwood despite the loss of experience from the state runner up team.

Somerset is the favorite in this game based on what has happened so far this season. Tell us a little about Somerset. What kind of offense? How much passing versus running? What do the Jumpers have up front on the line?

Totally agree with you! Should be a great game but if there is a favorite I'd have to give the slight edge to Beechwood. I do think Somerset will come up with a win in a very close game.

Every program has its ups and downs. I don't have to tell Somerset fans that. Some programs have a lesser degree of ups and downs than others. Beechwood is one of those. This year the team is not as strong as last year. That is just a fact.

If Somerset is that much better than last year, then maybe Beechwood also is different and not as good as last year. This Beechwood team is not the same team you played last year. Yes, the program is strong and Beechwood will compete. They might even win. They showed that last night versus Lloyd. But this team is the youngest, most inexperienced Beechwood team I can recall - especially at the line of scrimmage.

 

Beechwood will be better this week than they were last week. That will happen every week with this young team. Are they good enough to beat an improved Somerset?

Beechwood is worse than last year, Somerset is better. 4 TDs better? Who knows, defensively Beechwood must be pretty tough to keep all of LMs athletes in check. I DO believe it will be a close ball game, I dont know who wins but Itl be nice to see NKY competition early in the season. No matter the talent drop off they're always fundamentally sound which presents problems for anybody

At this juncture they're better running the ball, but the qb seems to be developing a decent connection with the receivers.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong but here's my two cents.

 

Beechwood was more than 4 TDs better last year than the score indicated.

 

That being said, Somerset has closed the gap but the margin remains to be seen. Somerset has some work to do defensively as evidenced last night. The second half effort was much better but they cant let the game slip by until the second half defensively (or offensively) against any team but especially a team like Beechwood.

 

I like Somerset's chances to pull out an upset with a home crowd, but that's a long ride in front of them Friday to a place its not easy to win for many teams.

 

28-13 type score is my best guess but any given Friday....

Love the fight in these young BW players. Line play is going to be the area that will need to improve the most for the Tigers to be competitive with the bigger boys. Backs are solid and quick, but not strong enough to run over anybody. Line has got to create some seams, or passing game is going to be overmatched. Good 2nd exam this week, it will be tough for Tigers.

Actually, Lloyd is ranked higher than Somerset in 2A. Nevertheless, I agree with you that this is going to be a fun match up to watch.

Somerset has its best passing game thus far. I look for Reece to get it going in the air. Doan will be effective in the run game. I'd guess somewhere around 150 yards out of him would be good. Beechwood's passing game wont hurt Somerset and their running back and line is nowhere near what they had last year. Stringer killed them last year. They didn't have an answer for him what so ever. I'll take the Briar Jumpers in this one by at least 2 scores.
