So a soldier who was drafted to fight in Vietnam wasn't really a true soldier because he didn't volunteer for it? They were drafted against their will and received training to fight for our country. A Police dog is drafted to become a police officer and receives the training to do his job. He has specific tasks assigned by the police department. Just like any job we all have, we have specific tasks we are assigned to do.

Well, then when a dog fills out its selective service card to be eligible for the draft...then I might consider whether or not to start thinking of it in the same way as a police officer.

 

And a police dog's job isn't just like any job we all have. I don't live with my boss. My boss doesn't directly purchase and prepare my food. I am able to quit my job if I would like to, and my boss has no power over that. A police dog is physical property of the police department. A human police officer is not. A police dog is actually purchased and trained.

Imagine that. Just like there's some officers that shouldn't be in the profession, there's some dogs that shouldn't be K-9 officers either.

Not to put words in @Wireman mouth but I don't think he is referring to your normal family pet, only referring to K-9 Unit dogs as resources which is what they are.
