Pre season top 10 rankings

Featured Replies

I'd like to hear who everyone thinks are the best teams in the state. I'll start with my top 10.

1. Bowling Green- The Purples return most of their team from last year that lead Dunbar at halftime in the state quarterfinals and add an 8th grade who averaged 17ppg on the EYBL circuit.

2. Fern Creek- They will be quick and athletic, they've been young and talented for a couple years now and I think this their year. The addition of Chance Moore is what makes this team a true state championship contender in my mind.

3.Louisville Trinity- The Shamrocks when they were shooting well were as good as anyone in the state last season and only lost 1 player. I expect to see them at Rupp in March.

4.Lexington Paul Dunbar- The reigning state champions lost 3 starters but return IMHO the best scorer in the state in Taveion Hollingsworth. They also beat Christian County and Scott County in the KBA this summer.

5. Covington Catholic- The Colonels are gonna be very good as always if they make it out of the very tough 9th region they'll have a good chance to win a state championship.

6. Scott County- The Cardinals are still young but this is a team that beat Henry Clay last season and they return almost everybody.

7. Lexington Christian Academy- Kyle Rhode is one of the best sophomores in the state and Tre King is a very under rated senior.

8. North Hardin- The Trojans have 2 top 10 players and will dominate the 5th region but I'm not sure who deep they are.

9. University Heights Academy- The Blazers have IMHO the best backcourt in the state. Tray Hollowell is a top 3 player in the state and KyKy Tandy is the best sophomore in the state.

10. Cooper- I don't know much about Cooper but I know they were good last year and return most of that team.

Other teams to consider

• Hopkinsville

• Christian County

• Graves County- no body in the state has a player like Chris Vogt.

• Louisville Doss

• Lexington Catholic

• North Laurel

I purposely left Louisville Ballard off both of these lists because of the rumor that David Sloan will be ineligible, I have no knowledge of the situation and hope he is ruled eligible. If he can play they will be a top 10 team.

If I'm not mistaken Tre King is re-classifying and attending Hargrave Military Academy this year.

Wow that's big news and news to me. I had not heard that, I'd move all the other teams up 1 and put Hopkinsville at #10 and take LCA completely out of the top 20.

I'd bet $$$ that Sloan will get eligible. Far shadier transfers have happened where a kid didn't even move and they got eligible. Khsaa doesn't enforce their own rules.

I feel the same way I'm just playing it safe in the rankings.

For Cooper, I think they are definitely in the Top 10, and should be a little higher. The problem is that I am not sure who I would place them ahead of. On paper, I think Cooper is more talented this year than CovCath but they are really well coached and always are at the top of the 9th so I can see why they don't get ranked ahead of the Colonels. The big question mark for this season will be Dante Hendrix. The best on ball defender in the region and always one of the top athletes on the floor no matter who they are playing. If he signs D1 football, I feel like he may not play basketball this year as those coaches will not want to risk injury. With him, I think Cooper is top 8, with the only issue on the team this year looking like it will be a solid, big post player. They have 5 kids, with Hendrix that can really space the floor and get after you with Kunkel, both McNeils, and Runion.

Even with King I don't think Lex Christian would have been a contender. Rhodes can't carry that big of a load. He is a really good player but not that kind of player yet to put them at number 7 in the state. North Hardin lost entirely too many good role players off that team last year to dominate anything this year. After Trace and Tony Jackson, the drop off is too big. They have too many unproven people behind them. Bardstown and John Hardin will give them all they can handle....I wouldn't even put them as the favorite in the region this year. I haven't even heard if Trace's transfer has been approved yet. Anyone have any info on that at this point

I really doubt a D-I football coach will tell Hendrix to not play football. Usually these coaches love multi-sport athletes if for no other reason than they keep competing and stay in shape.

It's another issue if Hendrix decides to enroll early - that would obviously mean he couldn't play b-ball.

Which D-I programs are recruiting Hendrix at this point?

I actually completely disagree and know of many D1 coaches who have "recommended" that student's do not another sport to risk injury. Same as the All-Star game in the summer. That is why most D1 players skip the All-Star game. The coach definitely does not demand they don't play but highly encourage not to. Then it is up to the athlete and family.

Dante currently has an offer from Indiana State and is actively being recruited by Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Ohio, Purdue, and one of the Michigans (Either Eastern or Central I think) can't remember which one

I always rank teams in the top 10 I no nothing about

The best backcourt in the state is Hopkinsville's Jalen Johnson and Steve sshortly cager. Coming off a summer beating the number 1 team inthe nation "TEAM Penny" and no. 4 da house in nation AAU in which both teams were loaded with division one players. They play on both ends like dogs very few in the state does that!

It is great you are behind your team and they are both very good players. However, you lose some credibility when you make claims that are not based in fact. Team Penny was not the #1 team in the nation, not even close. The 16U team were one of 16 teams to make the NIKE EYBL Sweet 16. However, they only won 1 game in pool play and never advanced into bracket play. The 17U team which I doubt they beat did make it to the FInal 4 of Peach Jam. They may have been the best team in Tennessee, but you are stretching it with saying the #1 team in the nation.

Agreed.

I am not sure they are the top backcourt in the state, or even in their own district (UHA) but I would put them in the top 5 for sure. It is because of those two players that they are a top 10 team in preseason ranking imo.

Fern Creek will have their hands full getting out of the 6th. They do have talent, but must prove to me that they can handle the big stage! #2 seems a big stretch.
