Suicide Squad review (no spoilers)

Featured Replies

Saw it last night in Chicago. My review? Meeeeeeeeh...its ok. Too many "throw away" characters I thought and did not like the Jarrod Leto Joker. Thought the Squads advisories were poorly written as well. Lots of action though, enough to keep your interest.

Reviews have not been kind from what I've read. They're pretty fixated on how the flick seemed to be fixated on Harley Quinn.

My kids saw it yesterday and loved it.

I doubt many adults will love it. Poor pacing, editing, weak characters and writing...its definitely not one of the better comic book flicks but there's enough action and sex appeal to hold some interest. I could have spent 2 hours and $10 and been less entertained, but that is far from a ringing endorsement.

So like BvS then. Lots of potential but let down. I have a bad feeling this will be the case for all DC movies unless Warner Brothers gives DC creative control and just reaps the rewards.

It can't be as bad as Ironman 2.

I'm not looking for Citizen Kane when I go to a comic book movie...just entertain me, I set the bar low and I'm rarely disappointed.

All I ask for is a good story that does the characters justice. I felt the Marvel has done a good job with that. I felt like DC has done it with Batman and Wonder Woman, I don't think they have with Lex Luthor or Superman.

Agree, Lex was a ham fisted at best attempt with his character.

I've always thought Superman was the hardest hero to write for...everyone knows his story, everyone knows Lois and Kryptonite are us only true weaknesses...it's hard to tell a compelling story with some one as powerful as he is.

I love Superman, but it's really hard IMO to make a compelling movie focused on him. I think Justice League is perfect for him, because his character won't have to do any heavy lifting plot wise.

Seeing Suicide Squad tomorrow in IMAX, my daughters reward for being an awesome daughter...I'll give my thoughts on the movie later.

As always, DC's problem is that they weren't willing to put in the legwork to make the movie worthwhile. In the case of both BvS and Suicide Squad, they try to cram all these new characters and/or plotlines in, which makes it difficult for them to do justice to any of them. There are just so many characters in Suicide Squad that you've never seen before (ALL OF THEM), and not enough time to make you care at all about any of them. Not even enough time that you might take satisfaction if one of them died because you hated them.

Also, Will Smith was totally miscast. Not because he did a poor job with the character, but because they changed the character to give more material because it was Will Smith. I thought they did not remotely do Rick Flag justice.

Do you think Smith would have made a better Flag?

That's actually what I told a few people I was with. I just think the way they were always going to write whatever character he played - as the star and leader - they should have picked the guy meant to be that. I like Kinneman, but they wrote Flag to be, quite frankly, the weak link. For a guy that is supposed to be this super decorated soldier, he sure did look weaker than a crazy person with a baseball bat.

The guy that played Rick Flag was awful. Heard that many of the Joker's scenes were cut. I liked and disliked parts of that character. The movie felt extremely rushed.

DC is trying to make up 15 years of Marvel, as well the shoddy late Batman flicks (not the Dark Knight ones). DC has only bothered with real character development the last couple years or so.

What other Batman movies have their been in the last 15 years besides the Dark Knight trio? I don't recall any shoddy Batman movies in that time frame or are you going back to the 90's?
