How Johnson can become President

9/10 people who like Johnson, don't even know what state he's from.

Where'd you come up with that? Not even close to being true. I'd imagine those who support Johnson have a much firmer grasp on his positions and background than those supporting either of the two major party candidates.

9/10 people millennials who like Clinton probably think she's from New York and probably can't find New York on a map.

Don't agree with him on some issues but simply cannot vote for Trump or Clinton. I even took a look at Stein but just couldn't find more than an issue or two I agreed with her on. Unless something drastic changes in the next 3 months it's Johnson for me.

In this election it's not out of the realm of possibility no candidate reaches 270 Electoral votes and the election is thrown to the House. But, I don't see any reason to believe House Republicans would vote for Johnson over Trump. If the election goes to the House, then the House votes by state under this scenario, not by a straight majority vote. This is my count of how each state's delegation breaks down.

Republican states: 33

Democratic states: 14

Even: 3

The only conceivable scenario through which this leads to a constitutional crisis is if there are enough anti-Trump Republican Representatives in states with a slim majority who would be willing to vote for Clinton or Johnson instead, causing enough stalemates or flips (at least eight Republican state delegations) that no candidate reaches a majority of states, but even that is only barely conceivable.

Correct me if I'm wrong but for Johnson to even have a chance in that scenario he HAS to win at least 1 electoral vote. If not the House will only pick between Trump and Clinton.

I thought I read that they decide between the top 3 vote-getters....I could be wrong though.

I believe it's the top three vote-getters in the EC. If Johnson doesn't win any states the House might only choose between Clinton and Trump.

The 12th Amendment says:

The person having the greatest Number of votes for President [in the EC], shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President.

That's what I thought. He has to win a state. Thanks.

The system is rigged to keep 3rd parties at bay. The 2 power mongers are not giving up their power

(Money). They have gamed the system and that's a shame. Exactly why we get these type of elections over and over. I want an outsider to get a shot. Trump is the closest thing. I'm sick of the career politicians bait and switch. I'd vote Johnson if he really had a chance. I'd rather had Ben Carson. But I'm left with voting for Trump so the wicked witch of the east doesn't get a second chance to loot the whitehouse.

Ross Perot won more than 19% of the popular vote in '92 but did not win a single electoral vote. If Johnson-Stein combined win more than 8% of the popular vote in November I'd be surprised. This election has zero chance of being decided by the House.
