It's not their fault at all, but it makes total sense with the fiasco on the Highlands football field just a couple of short years ago with their transfer as well as the one that has been playing out in the newspaper over the past few weeks with the track team. I have no clue, but I cannot imagine that there is not some sort of probationary period for breaking the rules. I would also imagine every transfer going there will be under a microscope for a while.

In Da Zone , if you are familiar with our team than you are probably aware that we went to Nationals with 8 girls and our 6'3 girl didn't go because her high school volleyball coach said she would be kicked off the team if she missed any volleyball the week of nationals. These things do not happen in high school, although I know there are a lot of variables to deal with.

 

BZ and LBC, I agree with you that there are some aau coaches that are in it for the wrong reasons and do mess some things up to a certain degree , but with that said I also know there are several high school coaches that are in it for themselves and political reasons. I know of 6th grade school coaches who teach no fundamentals but had 20 offensive plays and 10 inbounds plays under their own basket. I personally had a couple of players from my aau team who played little or no varsity playing time last season because " they weren't up to that level" but have both received 3 or more letters from

division 1 colleges this season. AAU , if done correctly does some great things for these student athletes. In three seperate tournaments this season we had well over 100 college coaches in attendance. Out of our 9 players 6 of them have recieved letters from colleges .

We could go on and on and back and forth probably forever but i assure you there are aau teams and coaches out there who are not charging and only have the best interest for the girls at heart.

The other thing that I would love to see the high schools do is open up the varsity coaching jobs to qualified people outside of the school systems. IMO Ky is missing out on some very good coaches due to some of the policies. There are some very qualified coaches who would love to coach high school but have other careers. The money for coaching high school should go back into the shool programs IMO . If anyone is coaching high school for the money they are not doing it for the right reasons!!

You have some great high school coaches although you have some that are doing it because someone had to. IF and when they open these jobs up to people with other careers who wouldn't want paid but could really help the girls it IMO will only make Ky girls basketball that much better.

 

:ylsuper: Spoken like a true AAU coach.. I'm sure there are far more good AAU coaches then bad and honestly my biggest problem is and has always been with parents and their inability to accurately assess their childs talents. Everything is about me, me , me and not about team.

As for your last paragraph I still think that all things being equal I want my Head Coach to be someone inside the school who has daily contact with the STUDENT/athlete and the teachers who have daily contact with that kid. To often para-professionals overlook bad behavior by a player because all they are concerned about is what that kid can do for the team. With that said here in Ludlow we are very fortunate to have a Para-professional as our girls head coach and he has been very successful but he is a Ludlow graduate with plenty of contacts in the school and he works closely with the principal, teachers and parents.. So I'm not saying it can't be done but if given the choice I want my coach to also work in the school.

I am sure there are some wonderful AAU coaches. Unfortunately, that seems to be the minority.

 

My understanding, an AAU coach can be the HS varsity coach in the state of KY. THat changed a few years back. In fact, I believe there is a private school in Louisville, name escapes me, that has a husband/wife duo that is the head coach and they are known for having a good if not great AAU program in Jefferson County.

 

The choice is left to the local HS. I do know that the preference is for the person to be an employee of the district. Makes everything a lot simpler.

Thomas school and believe me when I say that knowing the mother like I do, and one of the two girls since I coached her in recrecational and Club soccer, I believe the move was for Academics. Both girls are extremely smart, and I mean extremely smart and I really can't see the move being made for sports, even though both play basketball....

I am sure that they are able to participate in the classroom so I imagine that they will be happy with the move regardless of what there status is for athletics.

Just b/c the move wasn't made for sports doesn't mean they might not want to play sports. They were only brought up b/c of them having a similair situation when it comes to moving and selling their house. They were ruled ineligible. I was wondering if Katie has been ruled eligible yet. Last I heard she hasn't. I'm not saying she was ruled ineligible either. Just don't know if she's eligible yet or not.

My sources tell me InDaZone has alot of info on this situation (albeit somewhat slanted). Maybe he could give us all some sort of an update..
