He is splitting time at fullback but is not listed as the starter. The Senior he is splitting time with has been working some at D-line and may go over there fulltime. He will get playing time or they wouldn't have brought him up to the varsity. That is, if the staff didn't think he was going to contribute, they would have left him with the Sophomore team for development purposes.

 

He was the only freshman on the sophomore team last year where he started at fullback in front of two sophs and he dressed one game with the varsity in the playoffs.

 

The televised game will be the 3rd of the season and I will know more about his playing time by then. I will bring this thread back to the top that week and give an update.

Not moving back anytime soon. His younger brothers will be through school before that happens.

I plan to watch this game if I can remember when it comes on. Maybe you could restart the thread that week? Does your son start and do you think he'll play?

 

An update from last night's season opener. Providence played Lincoln Way East, a school with nearly 4,000 kids. LWE is ranked pre-season #1 in all classes in Illinois. Providence had them on the ropes and lead 14-9 with under 2 minutes to play before losing 15-14. My son played sparingly but he did catch a pass on a two point conversion that gave Provi a 8-0 lead in the first half. He is mentioned in today's Chicago Sun-Times article that I am linking.

My son is a Sophomore (the only Sophomore on the varsity team) at Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, Illinois. It was announced at Friday night's intra-squad scrimmage that their game with Mt. Carmel Catholic High School in Chicago, Illinois, has been moved to Thursday night, September 7, 2006, for a live broadcast on ESPN U.

 

Providence has won 9 state titles since 1987 and Mt. Carmel probably has the best team in the whole state this season. I am not sure how good PCHS is going to be, yet, but we will know more after Friday's season opening game with the defending 8A champion, Lincoln Way East.

 

I know that ESPN U is on channel 609 on DirecTv but I am not sure how many cable systems carry it. Check it out if you get a chance.

I must say Mt. Carmel was very impressive.

That Triple Option was lethal. We just couldn't stop it and they had a great quarterback.

Fortunately, MC is 8A and we will likely be 7A so even though they are in our conference we will not see them in the playoffs.

I saw Mt. Carmel back in '90 and they ran the option to perfection back then, one of the best HS offensive teams I've ever seen. I believe Donovan McNabb went to Mt. Carmel.
