August 17, 201610 yr Author Orlando Antigua added Murray Bartow to his staff, today, to replace brother Oliver. Murray, Gene Bartow's son, was head coach at UAB (1996-2002) and ETSU (2003-2015). Interesting hire. I'm not sure what to make of it.
August 17, 201610 yr Chris Fisher of CatsPause is reporting that South Florida is working on buyout for Orlando Antigua. Why would The Lobo Lair have any links inside the USF program? Seth Greenburg? That shipped sailed ages ago, and David Rice has already turned them down once. Being a Bulls fan, I can smell the barn a mile away and this reeks like standing in the stall with Rocky. So much for that buy out.
August 30, 201610 yr Author On Friday, the Tampa Bay Times' Joey Knight reported that USF's top recruit Troy Baxter did not enroll at the university and has been released from his LOI. He's visiting Arizona State this week. Saturday, Knight revealed that Frosh PG Andres Feliz was not with the team and was not at Fan Fest Saturday morning. Things are not looking good for Coach O, at the moment. Thankfully, the ones calling for his head are not the ones writing checks to the school. However, another season like last year and he probably won't survive.
November 3, 20169 yr Author Coach O can't catch a break. Jamal McMurray has been suspended six games for violating team rules. McMurray led the Bulls in scoring last season. Six games sounds is about 20% of the season, which I believe is the school's mandatory first positive test disciplinary action. I'm just guessing, though. Got my season tickets in the mail, yesterday. Yippee? They have an exhibition game on Monday night against Nova Southeastern. My confidence level in winning that one is not really high, at the moment.
November 4, 20169 yr Author Nova Southeastern. What is that? A private non-profit school based in Davie, FL (Ft. Lauderdale area.), they have 2 other campuses in the Miami/Dade Metroplex and student academic center type satellite campuses all over the state, including Tampa. They have a total enrollment of a little over 25,000. For comparisons sake, that is larger than the student body of UofL. I've been considering returning to school, again, and Nova was one of the institutions I was looking at it, because of the satellite campus, here. A little pricey for in-state tuition, though. The Sharks play Division II ball in the Sunshine State Conference.
May 25, 20179 yr Author NCAA releases findings of probe into USF men's basketball Joey Knight - Tampa Bay Times. Former USF men's basketball assistant Oliver Antigua provided impermissible benefits, including lodging at his own home, for two prospective student-athletes while they received on-campus tutoring, according to findings reported to the school by the NCAA. The NCAA's Summary Disposition Report was released Thursday morning to the Tampa Bay Times following a public-records request. It indicates Antigua, who resigned last July, provided the benefits (not totaling more than $511) while the recruits were being tutored at USF's College of Medicine by the sister-in-law of Gerald Gillion, then special assistant to former coach Orlando Antigua. Additionally, Oliver Antigua initially provided false information to investigators before coming clean, the report says. USF already has self-imposed three penalties: a $5,000 fine, withholding a coach from off-campus recruiting for 50 days (Oliver Antigua) and a reduction from 13 to 12 scholarships (last season). Whether the NCAA levels further penalties remains to be seen. Oliver Antigua resigned last July, roughly four months before Gillion did the same. Orlando Antigua, who was dismissed Jan. 3, was not implicated in any of the NCAA findings. He's now an assistant at Illinois. The paperwork also indicates USF cooperated fully with the investigation and didn't engage in any behavior that would constitute academic fraud. A statement released by the school Thursday morning says: "The University of South Florida and the NCAA continue to work together to resolve the inquiry into violations of NCAA bylaws and university standards by a USF intercollegiate athletic program. USF anticipates having a final resolution with the NCAA sometime this fall. Until the process concludes and the matter is fully resolved, USF cannot provide further comment. In a separate document, the school -- citing several past-case precedents -- indicates it believes the infractions constitute a Level II-Mitigated violation, the lowest possible "major" infraction of which an institution can be found guilty. Still, the NCAA Committee on Infractions could determine a more serious (Level I) violation occurred because it "involved unethical or dishonest conduct, which seriously undermined or threatened the integrity of the NCAA Collegiate Model." A stipulation in new coach Brian Gregory's six-year contract would extend that deal by a year if the program is hit with NCAA penalties for infractions committed before his arrival. If no further penalties are added to the ones USF already has self-imposed, it's unclear whether that stipulation would take effect because none of the school's self-imposed penalties appear to represent a future competitive disadvantage.
May 25, 20179 yr Author Oliver did it the wrong way. In stead of providing housing and tutoring for legit classes, he should have just given them all As in fake classes and been done with it.
