Clyde Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 More talk coming out of the B12 meetings that expansion is near. Reports say they had a study done showing their value can go up by $1B by the time the current TV contract is up if they add 4 teams. UC is near the top of those schools being considered per reports. It would be huge for UC football. @gametime - any thoughts? I'm sure you've been following it closer than the rest of us.
Clyde Posted July 20, 2016 Author Posted July 20, 2016 The ACC announced it is starting their own network. B12 would be the only P5 conference without its own.
Clyde Posted July 20, 2016 Author Posted July 20, 2016 TX schools in the B12 are fighting against bringing in Houston.

plantmanky Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Didnt the Big 12 just say No to UC like a few months ago? and that they were not going to expande? What is different now?
John Anthony Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Didnt the Big 12 just say No to UC like a few months ago? and that they were not going to expande? What is different now? Other conferences showed interest.
Clyde Posted July 20, 2016 Author Posted July 20, 2016 Didnt the Big 12 just say No to UC like a few months ago? and that they were not going to expande? What is different now? As stated previously: Report says vale of conference could go up $1B by the end of the current ESPN contract IF they expand They are now the only conference without their own network.

Clyde Posted July 20, 2016 Author Posted July 20, 2016 Are the Horns going to surrender theirs? They will need to be enticed financially. That's what Clay Travis discussed in his article I quoted. New teams will have to take much less than existing teams for a while.
gametime Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 All indications are that UC is #11 and should be in, but the Big 12 brass is an incredibly unpredictable bunch. Taking less the first few years is standard and expected. WVU and TCU will get a full share for the first time this year...
gametime Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Didnt the Big 12 just say No to UC like a few months ago? and that they were not going to expande? What is different now? Never said either. Have been kicking the can down the road in hopes of poaching a few ACC schools eventually. That ended Monday night when it leaked that the ACC was extending their GoR to 2036. That forced the Big 12 to finally make a decision on expansion...
That One Guy Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 So what it sounds like is the majority of the Big 12 wants to expand, but not with the some of the schools that are available. Texas doesn't want to expand The rest of Texas doesn't want Houston West Virginia wants Cincinnati Kansas wants Memphis Oklahoma wants someone that can play football and they all want Nebraska to come back???

It was a 10-0 vote to move forward with expansion...
RaiderPride5 Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 The reason that I heard a while back that Houston wasn't wanted (and this was from some Big 12 insider idk the guy was on Paul Finebaum) is because they want to expand the market of the Big 12 I guess. Which is probably why UCF is being mentioned, UCONN (I'm assuming they're tired of being terrible at basketball and don't have to worry about being beat in football). I'm interested in seeing in what Texas will do and what the Big 12 will do about the network situation though.
