July 24, 201610 yr We never saw any wreck while on our way to the concert. The right lane getting off at Kellogg was backed up so we went New Richmond and had no problem. Cheap Trick, Joan Jett and Heart were all awesome! Great, great concert! I've seen JJ. Would love to the Wilson gals.
July 24, 201610 yr The concert was great. A band named "Trombone Shorty" opened for them' date=' and they were a New Orleans Jazz band. Trombone Shorty was very entertaining. Hall & Oates put on a good show, too. They played basically every hit that I knew, plus a few others. I had heard that Hall & Oates hated each other, and their on-stage chemistry seemed a bit odd, but the music was good. Plus it was beautiful weather.[/quote'] Trombone Shorty is a person. Excellent.
July 24, 201610 yr Don't forget Cincinnati hosted what used to be the Kool Jazz Festival this weekend at PBS.
July 24, 201610 yr I was in attendance at the Heart, JJ, and Cheap Trick show. We sat in a comfy place on the lawn. Not the best of views, but we saw the acts from the stage. Looks like a lot of friends were also there. I love outdoor shows. Lot's of people I half recognized, wish they had reminded of faces to put with names. Great show, cut a little short. Terrible traffic issues. First time for me on the traffic issue. Had to go into NASCAR mode, or I may still be sitting behind the guy who thought it was okay to let EVERYONE in front of him. CPS didn't help much, nor did Riverbend employees. And believe me, I asked. I now know where I will ever park again. I'll eat the tickets first.
July 24, 201610 yr We park in the tailgating lot across from Coney's main entrance. In and out with no problems ever!

Cheap Trick, Joan Jett and Heart were all awesome! Great, great concert! Glad to hear that this was a good show. Of the lineup for the entire Riverbend season, this show was the one that peaked my interest the most, but I ended up catching an excellent free electronic pop dance show on Fountain Square with Robert Delong from Washington instead. This innovative dude put on a one man extravaganza that caught me by surprise. I had no high expectations, and it turned out to be probably one of the best Fountain Square shows that I've ever seen. Aside from using a combination of DJ knob twisting tilted so that the crowd could witness his hands on the boards, countless gadgets, interesting vocal effects, two real drum kits with non traditional effects as well as an electric guitar, the giant Jumbotron was utilized to full effect with groovy video lighting along with amazing work by all the camera guys shooting from all angles including tons of audience shots. Delong kept the hot beats going while navigating from instrument to instrument non stop all the while expiring tons of energy jumping up and down being the vocalist as well. The audience was comprised of mostly well behaved excited energy filled millennials getting their dance groove on. While the local electronic dance group Playfully Yours was warming up the crowd, a few girls with florescent colored paint travelled throughout the crowd painting faces so that by the time Delong hit the stage about 75% of the audience between the stage and the sound booth had lit up colorful faces to add to the color and effect that was coming from the stage. All in all a pretty down right amazing show. Edited July 24, 201610 yr by B-Ball-fan
July 24, 201610 yr Did you got to this concert? Said on the news a bad wreck down that way was having a huge affect on getting into the concert Backed up a bit but only missed the first couple of songs by cheap trick. Having seen the set list prior we didn't miss much. Very good show. I was shocked at how crowded it was. I bought groupon tix for $12.50 months ago. Thought they were just trying to fill the place to get my beer money.
July 24, 201610 yr In a week, July 27th Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed. This Wednesday! I'm pumped. Cant wait.

July 24, 201610 yr Both my daughters and friends went to this and loved it. That's very cool to know that someone else checked this out too, and I've no doubt that your daughters and their friends had a great time. I have to ask if they came home with glow in the dark paint on their faces? I was tempted to but with the humidity was afraid that it would run and drip down my face. I was unaware of this guy previous to going and was highly entertained and impressed even without knowing any of his songs beforehand. He completely held everyone's attention the entire time that he was on stage, and that's not always easy for an artist to accomplish. When I'm unfamiliar with an artist that I'm catching live, such as these free shows on the Square, it's not unusual for me to get a dose of them until I burn out, and then often times beat the crowd to the exits. This show however kept me so captivated that I wouldn't dare leave early. His act was that interesting.
July 25, 201610 yr Did you miss Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings before Trombone Shorty? They were phenomenal also! I am now a fan of both! Yeah, we missed them unfortunately.

My youngest daughter saw him at Madison Theater in Covington back in November. Her horse trainer knows him and absolutely loves his music. They have a cool picture of both of them with Robert Delong their faces painted from Friday.
July 25, 201610 yr For those who are interested, I watched a really cool "Live At Daryl's" set where Daryl Hall and his backers (No Oates) joined Robin Zander and Rick Neilsen for a wonderful 25-minute show. Great stuff.
