Most migrations happen because parents/players are not happy with their current situation. Whether it be the position they are currently playing, the club administration, or the politics involved.

I'll agree with most of what you said with exception to what I've placed in bold. When you hear 1st hand from a parent that they were told their daughter wasn't going to play at NDA unless they switched, then the rest of the parents follow.

 

Just so I understand correctly. Are you saying that a current parent at NDA who's daughter was a frosh thru sr. at the time had a coach that told them they had to switch, or an eighth grader or below.

The dominance in the State Volleyball Tourney winner I suspect is bothersome to a very small percentage of schools. The Mountain Schools (as you refer), the rural area schools, and others likely dont care that a couple Louisville schools dominate the State Championships. All other schools (hundreds) have lots of school pride working to win that Regional Tournament maybe once in a decade or more and maybe even a district tournament. For all these schools this is something to work for, its exciting, and its fun. Your concern for them may be uwarranted. I suspect frankly they dont care so dont assume everyones watching, they arent. I susepct its much like other sports, its the parents of the teams playing thinking everyone else is watching.

 

Our school makes a regional tournament in many sports and occassionaly a State Tourney but in all that we do we are just as proud, having just as much fun, and probably have the same fans as others, parents and a few friends... So win away, no offense to the number of championships and congrats to the Louisville schools.. but dont worry about the dominance... because just most dont care.

Current NDA player, but this was after her 13s year at NKYVC. So I think is been at least a couple years.

I'm still waiting to hear who the good coach NDA lost is and their lackluster replacement?

You just made my point. The mountain schools do not care about volleyball, and their performance at the state tournament reflects it. Nothing wrong with not caring, but to continue to send teams to the state tournament is wrong if they in fact do not care about the sport. It is senseless to watch School A from the mountains send underhand serves to Louisville Assumption back row for an easy pass, set and spike. My solution is to have a Governor's Cup type of postseason tournament instead of the state, invite the top three schools from both Louisville regions, Notre Dame and an at-large school from the state. It would be more competitive, give a team from say, Lexington, a shot at the top programs even though we all know the best Lexington school can not compete with the Louisville elite teams in volleyball. The current state tournament is just not worth watching when, as you correctly stated, many schools and regions do not care about the sport.

NDA may dominate the number of regional titles for our area, but there are several public schools which are going to pose a serious challenge this season.

 

Every year someone posts that...and every year it's a complete joke. The record shows that St. Henry has been the only consistent competition for NDA. Several? I can think of only 2 public schools - Cooper and Ryle. That's it. And I don't think they'll do it. You are kidding yourself if you think any other public school even stands a chance.

 

And several have posed serious challenges in the past.

 

NDA hasn't lost to any public school in regular or post-season in probably the last 20 years and maybe longer. That's your "serious challenge?" LMAO

So maybe the answer is a tournament for the four that have dominated the last 20 years and the other 100 plus schools could play in their own state tournament.

Or, maybe to just eliminate the state tournament because, as many of you have stated, the rest of the state does not care about volleyball. Why give a state trophy to a program that is not trying to compete at the highest level? The mountain schools and western part of the state put no effort into building their programs, so why continue to send teams to the state tournament when it's not competitive?

I have absolutely no problem with every region's representative being at the state tournament. It is their reward for winning their region and so what if they get blown out in the first round and serve underhand? I consider it an elitist attitude to think otherwise.

 

Now, if you wanted to go back to the 70's and early 80's by allowing 2 teams to advance to the state tournament, I'd be fine with that. But now do you want to seed the regional tournament to make sure that St. Henry doesn't land in the same bracket as NDA like last year?

So they were telling kids not even in high school yet that unless they played for TSE in club that they wouldn't start in HS. Wow! Buck has only been there for two years, (this will be his third season as a high school coach). So basically your saying he said that during his first season at NDA. hmmm, Interesting.

 

I wonder if anyone asked if that applied to Morgan and the rest of the girls who played at NKYVC the next few years and started varsity.

So you hit the nail on the head. Its been within the last two years. Since you brought up his name, you can't take away what I heard from the parent that Buck said to them. It really doesn't matter much anymore. Its not a secret and people will continue to leave clubs like KNJV & NKYVC and move over to TSE feeling they need that one up (as someone said above) on the other kid whose parents are saying hey won't let someone dictate where their kid will play.

 

As far as Morgan goes, if he decided to not play her it wasn't going to hurt her college choices, that would have only hurt he team. Morgan is one of those players that only come around every once and a while in NKy in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, there are some very very good players in NKy. Morgan has had the opportunities to do things that I think most would love to have had being that she was so go in HS.

 

For NKy, I hope that we see more kids like her in the future.
