What most of you don't get. Even though the High School may not be able to compete with the top 3, it is a honor and bragging rights to go to the State Tournament. Besides that the girls have a large time, and look forward to playing one of the big dogs. It is about the girls, right ?

I'm not sure NKY has had another Morgan or will see one, but that doesn't mean they won't or don't have some very talented volleyball players. Is there another girl who got a full ride to Stanford and was on the USA Youth National Team in our history? Keep in mind that those two things alone are pretty rare for anywhere in the country. I'd love to see a few more kids like her in my lifetime. She was special for sure.

 

 

As far as NDA, I have friends whose daughters were already at NDA when Buck got hired and they said he told the girls he didn't care what club they played for but that he wanted them competing at the highest possible level. Not doubting what you heard, just adding my own two cents of what I heard as well.

I thought Andrea was an ok coach, but she did not win state, so I'm not sure how you can hold her on a pedestal and say she had a "lackluster" replacement, and in many peoples opinion Buck is actually one of the best coaches in all of the Tri-State. He was named the Enquirer Coach of the Year this year. Buck has done just as much as Andrea.

Actually your original post did contain a shot at him, but I will also concede that your intent was probably directed more at the Administration, Athletic Director, and Parents of Notre Dame.

NDA wins because it's a destination for every volleyball player in the region and has all the talent. But as long as NDA allows parents and other outside influences to run the program, along with basketball, things will never be fine.

An experienced coach knows this when they take the job. Did Andrea or any of the other coaches you point to as being "run off" not have prior head coaching experience?

What's head coaching experience have to do with a flawed school putting up with bad parents controlling a sports program? One answer would be a strong AD and administration that would simply tell the parents your kid is going to play by the coaches rules, or you're not going to play. Period. I figured as much. Anyone close to the NDA scene knows the parents and outside influences (club teams) are in control of the coaches. I was not saying Lanham was like a hall of fame coach, but she deserved a better fate than the administration/parents/outside influences caused in her departure. I don't blame Lanham for leaving at all. But I do not like the way these supposed adults can bully a coach in any sport, depending on the school, into leaving even when the coach is doing a good job.
