July 21, 201610 yr I remember a business trip that took me to Detroit. I love gravy on over easy eggs, all smooshed up like an egg-gravy soup. So, I asked the server at breakfast if I could get some gravy to go with my eggs, since I didn't see it on the menu. God love him, he got me some gravy....beef gravy...like...with roast beef gravy... I ate it. He went out of his way and I couldn't be ungrateful, so I ate it and tipped him well. That was maybe the most disgusting meal of my life. The lesson, of course, is that "gravy," like many other commonly accepted local culture things, doesn't mean the same thing everywhere. There are places in the US where you would have ended up with chili on your food.
July 24, 201610 yr We have some friends in from Rockholds and Mrs. S wants to send them off with a big country breakfast tomorrow morning. Bacon and eggs, homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, sausage patties, hash browns, and pancakes. :hungry:
July 24, 201610 yr On top of that, try to find a bowl of grits. Ain't happenin'. Went to a restaurant outside Chicago for breakfast a few years back. They had "grits" on the menu. At least they tried.
