Purples win again. Not sure who we play next I will let you know soon. We are Beyond banged up. Coaching and Grit can take a team a long way

Purples getting ready to face Jefferson Davis out of Alabama. All athletes. We are banged up but pride and determination has won us some games we had no business being in

Bowling Green purples just beat Jefferson Davis out of Alabama. Going to the final game of the day for Bowling Green High. We will face Dalton Georgia or Valdosta Georgia. Both powerhouses. We have beaten some unbelievable things today. Again we are so banged up hard to believe we are winning these games. Come late August the purples are going to be a freight train.

Purples tournament ends. They get beat Buy Valdosta Georgia 15 - 12. Finish the tournament in 6th Place out of 24 teams. The top 10 teams in the tournament were unbelievable. Very griddy performance

According to Twitter they placed 3rd and won the sportsmanship award. Don't know if that's accurate but a team picture is posted with two trophies.

Yes, 3rd in the silver bracket which I believe was the consolation bracket.

That makes more sense. I'm thinking no way they're 3rd overall.

Just got home. Ryle finished 3rd in Silver (losers bracket). Dont let that fool you. Of the 24 teams there were maybe 6 or 7 that were good teams but nothing fantastic about them. The rest were teams (all but 1 "down south" teams) that were truly impressive HS teams. Imagine the top looking athletes on a team like Male and thats what these teams looked like. 15-20 studs.

The Purples barely made the cut to be in the Championship bracket and was expected to lose 2 really quickly and head to the house. However, they caught fire (Deangelo Wilson is unreal WR for Purples). They lost yeaterday to Jefferson Davis but upset them and a couple of other big boy schools. Last game of day they played Valdosta (without 3 defensive starters) and got beat at end of game by 2 points.

The Purples will use these next 5 weeks to lick their wounds, work hard and be ready to play come late August. Offensively in state of KY they should be lights out.

Looking forward to another great season

Great to hear for the purples! Looking forward to seeing them in BG again this year. Sounds like they have some explosive athletes.

It certainly is hot down in Dalton and I have a ton of respect for high school kids to be able to play 12 22 minutes action packed games in about 29 hours of time. After getting back from this tourney I thought I knew what to expect but am glad I went because it was different than I had expected:

- This game is hybrid football. It is not the game we are looking forward to come the last of August. Teams that have strong skill but no line get killed in August but here in Dalton they compete with anybody.

- Every 7v7 game is different. If you come in thinking you can win you can because if you can get up early even if you are not supposed to and get a tipped INT or TD; you can ride that to a win.

- Coaching matters. I know you already know this. But in 7v7 with a 22 minute running clock if you make tactical errors you are done. We watched a great game yesterday where the IL team had a 1 pt lead and the ball against the team that won this whole tournament. On 3rd down they ran what I thought was a poorly executed play and gambled for a big play and pass was incomplete. That stopped the clock for SC team who couldn't have stopped it any other way and brought up 4th down. At this 7v7 if the defense stops the offense it is 2 pts for the D. SO the whole game is on the line in that 1 play. SC team holds and game over and they win and go on to win the whole thing. Just an example of how coaching matters.

- Most teams do not have #s on their jerseys; they just have t-shirts. This makes it harder to know who is who on the field.

Bowling Green ends the tourney with a 7-5 record (4-3 in pools and 3-2 in the big bracket).

BG begins Saturday bracket with a great effort against Brentwood Academy and was in the game and could have won, but came up short 17-15. This put them at the bottom of the bracket and in a win or go home situation and really gut check time (do you want to be there and compete or not time). Against SE Whitfield they play really hard and come out with a pretty comfortable win. They then faced a Maplesville, AL team that was favored to beat the Purples. BG jumped on them early and the AL team couldn't catch up. The 4th game of the day was a rematch with pool foe Jefferson Davis. They may not win everthing on Friday nights, but their skill guys are very good. This game was back and forth, injuries too. But BG held on and moved to the final game of the day on 20 minute turnaround and played Valdosta, GA. Give them credit as they stopped BG on the first series and then traded scores and finally fell 15-12 in a competitive game.

Final thoughts:

-6th place finish overall in this field of competition is an accomplishment.

- BG was a different team on Saturday. I don't know if they were more acclaimated to everything they faced (weather, teams, venues, etc). But they didn't panic after a tough loss to Brentwood in game 1 and kept fighting with noteworthy wins.

- Several guys stood out but will only mention 3 here. Clark Payne QB played fantastic. I can only remember 1 or 2 INTs the whole weekend and when you throw every play thats saying something. Deangelo Wilson was the go-to receiver. He made tough catch after tough catch with the best catch in the whole touney I saw was on 4th down in the end zone, 1-handed against Cleveland in the 1st game. If BG doesn't win that game they don't play in the big bracket. Finally, Tyler Stahl had good leadership for the defense that most times saw 1 SR 2 JR 3 SO and 1FR against big time competition.

- OH YEAH, saw Jimbo Fisher (FSU coach) scouting on Saturday. Pretty cool.

- This trip will help the Purples, especially the defense. Get home and heal up and bring on John Hardin. GO BG!

My ONLY regret for the entire weekend was not being able to see Ryle play more. To change venues several times in a tight timeline of games just wasn't a realistic possibility.

I got to see about 10-15 minutes of their 1st game against Brentwood and was really impressed with Tanner Morgan QB.

I heard they got 3rd place in their bracket and that is a very good accomplishment.

I hope they will build off that. And know they will be competitive in 6A NKY this year.

Best of luck to the Ryle Raiders!

Purple 88.you keep referring to heal up now. Did someone get hurt ?
