Impossible for anyone to make the statement that there will be more plastic than fish when we don't have any idea how many fish are in the oceans.

One huge problem is that a lot of the world has no way to deal with left over plastics. They either dump them or burn them, neither of which is ideal.

 

There needs to be some advances in recycling that makes it easier and more affordable for these countries. The US has issues to clean up as well but when it comes to the mess in the oceans I'd say we are a very small part of the problem.

Recycling is just part of the issue. How do we keep people from being pigs and throwing their plastic and other crap onto the ground instead of in trash containers? Many smokers are among the worst. How many times have you seen a cigarette tossed out of a moving car, or an ashtray dumped in a parking lot? Look at the ground at the side of the road the next time you are stopped at the end of an exit ramp, hundreds of butts laying around. How many millions butts get tossed every day by millions of smokers? Disgusting.

No, every home that has City Trash Service received a new large wheeled Trash Can and a new wheeled Recycle Can.

 

Our monthly charge for pickup of both is $10.57.

 

The garbage/trash trucks even run on Compressed Natural Gas, instead of gas or diesel.

Most are a little smaller than this, but this is similar to what we have. This is actually the size of the Trash cans we have.

I wish companies would cut down on packaging. Some products seem to need a chain saw to open. I'm sure there is a reason that the overly package products, but I don't know what it is.

 

It's sad, what we continue to do to our world.

A buddy of mine scolds me every time he sees me with a water bottle. He loves to remind me that the tap water in Williamstown is safe to drink.

 

He's right. They do a good job keeping that lake clean.

I know we still have violators, but compare the level of consciousness people have about blatant pollution compared to 15+ years ago and it is night and day. It used to be second nature to discard trash or cans on the side of the road or in a lake, but you don't see people doing it (as much) any longer. I liken it to the seat belt campaign of the mid-90s or folks wearing bicycle helmets. You are now the silly looking one if you do not wear a seat belt or wear a helmet. These messages were ingrained into the minds of people my age and younger.

Awareness level HERE is much higher for sure. But I can't speak for other areas of the world; and the population isn't getting any smaller.
