June 16, 201610 yr Some members of the Stanford women's swim team says they were not surprised that he did this. They said they were very uncomfortable around him based on comments he would make to them. One story says Stanford officials pressured some members of the women's team to NOT write letters to the judge.
June 16, 201610 yr I have two sons and both played sports in H.S. When your friends? know what you're doing, then most likely the coach will, also. Why not drug test in the off season, if the system truly has these students welfare at heart? I volunteered A LOT at the schools, after school one afternoon when I got there, this known pot dealing loser was talking to my sons and the group I was working with, and I was livid. I literally ran his rear end off the lot and let him know I knew his name. He was never there for me to see again, maybe I was incredibly naïve about danger but I just lost it. I realize he just met some of the kids somewhere else but I didn't have to see it and my sons knew I meant it. Yes, I've been around college campuses for a couple of decades and I know this goes on. I know I can't change it but if I can get one person to not use, it is a small victory. And I don't know why all of this has become so acceptable and if it is, then no one will work against it to improve it. Yeah, I guess my decency code has become passe. But my children and grandchildren know that I talk the talk but ALSO walk the walk. What if this was the "one person" on that day ? It strikes me as potentially an opportunity lost....

Max Williamson from Cov. Cath. would have been there when all this went down, but Leah Stevens from Sacred Heart would have not been there yet.

I'll assume he is one of the upper classmen I read about who were on this kid about partying too much and being out of control.
June 16, 201610 yr Correct on Max. I'll assume he is one of the upper classmen I read about who were on this kid about partying too much and being out of control. I wasn't trying to link either KY kid other than to say they are on the team.
June 16, 201610 yr I wasn't trying to link either KY kid other than to say they are on the team. Of course.
June 16, 201610 yr What if this was the "one person" on that day ? It strikes me as potentially an opportunity lost.... It actually might have been, I think it made a real point to " My Kids". It was definitely not a lost opportunity. And this group of kids have become wonderful citizens who have and are giving back. I hate the fact that I lost one young man tragically.
June 16, 201610 yr What if this was the "one person" on that day ? It strikes me as potentially an opportunity lost.... I'm not real clear about your statement. But if you mean I could have helped the loser, forget it. No one had any success there.
June 17, 201610 yr I'm not real clear about your statement. But if you mean I could have helped the loser, forget it. No one had any success there. This is exactly what I meant...easy to dismiss that one as a "loser" and write them off, that could have been the one that 1) needed the most help and 2) you could have helped the most. Sometimes the easy thing to do is not necessarily the best course of action....

Sometimes the easy thing to do is not necessarily the best course of action.... The EASY thing to do would have been to act like he was not there. No one could have helped this guy. You can't be serious, try to convince someone who is selling to be able to afford their own habit, I just didn't want him to drag down the young people I was working with.

June 20, 201610 yr I'm totally serious.... This guy was not a student, was close to being 21, had dropped out of school, had some sort of altercation with local police and being around him regularly would have been a risk to myself. So, no, he could not be helped.

June 22, 201610 yr ...by you, right ? My first and foremost responsibility was to the group of young people, whom parents knew there was no worry while in my care. No way was I leaving them, to help this dealer and user have a "come to Jesus moment". Had I been responsible only for myself, possibly I could have gotten one of the counselors from Comprehend to try to get him into care. This was before cell phones. I repeat, NO, I was not leaving these young people in my care.

Initially sounded as if you just happened upon a group of random kids, not that you were somehow responsible for that group somehow.
