Chicago: More than 60 people shot over Memorial Day Weekend

I'm all for the legalization of marijuana.

You can't legalize heroin, meth, etc. If you want to see the cemeteries fill up, just legalize those two drugs.

Social darwinism I'm cool with it.

You don't need to legalize it for cemeteries to fill up, per people who work in morges or EMT techs, it is already happening.

I really don't think whether a drug is legal or illegal makes much difference as to whether someone uses it and abuses it. I have never used anything other than alcohol, I have never seen heroin before but I guarantee despite being illegal I could get some in about 30 minutes with just a few calls. Drugs being illegal just makes the naive, idealists feel better.

Well, the first thing that needs to be done is the government needs to quit allowing the influx of drugs into inner cities. Once they get truly serious about drugs being manufactured out of our country and brought into our country illegally then the problem will be solved.

How do you do that? For every trafficker/ distributor/runner caught, the lure of wealth drives new ones to take their place. The only way to end truly end it is fear of death like in China. In China, if caught and arrested, within a week's time you are arrested, tried, sentenced to death, tortured for information on other trafficers and suppliers you know of and then marched in public and executed. While the process has been very affective at keeping trafficing out of China, I would prefer it not come to the US.

To stop the influx of drugs by the cartels, you are going to have to do things in a very nasty way. I don't have a problem with that, others, I'm sure, will.

I would prefer not to the route China has I mentioned above, it would work though.

Much like illegal immigration it is too big of a business for the government to truly attempt to shut down so the cycle will continue.

Long story short, nothing can or will be done by anyone with the power to stop it.

How would you go about that? I agree with you that would be a great start.

Until communities can come together without the fear of retaliation and take back their streets I don't see an answer in sight.

The whole "I aint going to snitch" thing has led to too many people getting away with...well murder and many other crimes. That's not just an inner city problem, it's a problem up in the hollers of Eastern Kentucky and in the bayous of Louisiana and anyplace where people live as criminals and threaten the innocent people they live among.

As stated earlier, the Police say that about 1500 people are driving most of the violence in Chicago (I think that number is way low). Well guess what, every community has a handful of turds like that that commit the majority of the crime in a given community. Go sit in district court in any county in Kentucky and over the course of a year you will see some of the same people over and over and over.

Far from a naive idealist. Sure as heck not looking to feel better.

I was a paramedic for 20 plus years. Now work in law enforcement. I see the damage, not just to the user, but the kids. If you legalize the really hard drugs like heroin and meth, then more will use and more will become addicted and the cycle continues.

It wouldn't take me 30 minutes to get some heroin. That's not the point. Protection of our children is my main priority.

I would prefer not to the route China has I mentioned above, it would work though.

Therein lies the problem. You don't want to do the ugly stuff it would take to stop the influx. I said it wouldn't be pretty.

Course of a couple of months. :wideyed:

IMHO we need to get rid of the catch and release justice system. I know too many inmates by their first name.

China's process also involves innocent people being mistakenly executed too, that is my biggest problem with it.

I'm not saying that's the only type of solution. I am saying that any solution is going to involve violence and dead cartel members.

I would say the biggest problem is in a free society it would be a luadcris punishment.

How would you go about that? I agree with you that would be a great start.

I've always been of the belief that the government runs the drug trade and have been doing so since the 1960s. If they wanted to stop it they could.

I don't have a problem with it. I just think the US government is in bed with the cartels.

Oh OK, well I guess if that were true they could stop it.
