Well after week one I'd give the edge to Doug Beaumont. I listened to the X/BG game. Sounded like Anderson wasn't the best back on his own team. He won OPG honors yet was out performed by fellow Tiger Finch. Anderson sat the second half with cramps. The broadcast made it sound like Stuart Hines (DPG) from BG is a real force. He had a great game in a losing cause. I watched the Male/New Albany game and Beaumont could not be touched. He was unstoppable. At one point NA took several timeouts in an effort to get the refs to call the game for lightning rather than punt to Beaumont. Its early but IMO, Beaumont vaulted to an early lead at least in the Jefferson County portion of the competition.

After watching Franklin Co. last night I would say that Kaelin Ammons is definatly one of the top 3 or 4 players in the state.

Ammons sure didn't hurt himself. With Kaelin running the offense, Franklin County had the game in hand by intermission. Ammons ran for four TDs on eight first-half carries (122 yards) and completed 12 of 18 passes (289 yards), including one for a score. The Flyers had 470 yards of offense at halftime.

The second half was delayed so that is all the stats the paper had, but he had a great opening week.

Doug Beaumont from Male had a big night, he could have racked up over 300 yards last night if he stayed in all game. From what I hear, Doug had over 160 yards and 3 TDS.?? I s that correct?

It appears that he has the leg up after the 1st game, but so many more games to go!

Victor Anderson did not play the whole 2nd half and I heard that he had 60 yrds. on 13-14 carries? the soph. running back on st.x had a better showing.

I've watched alot of football in my day and Doug Beaumont is the "REAL DEAL"...He would be my favorite right now. Not far behind him would be Kaelin Ammons from Franklin County. I saw him and Burke last year and I thought he was just as good if not better than Burke..Couldn't lose with either one of those young men...:ylsuper: :ylsuper:

I can't wait to see Beaumount vs Emanuel Taylor next week at Hopkinsville. E.T. has added 12 pounds to his frame and was timed under 4.5 in the forty last week at school.

Also the New Albany QB ran a QB Draw and ran about 25 yards. Douglas caught him from behind, tackled him and stripped him of the ball turnover to Male. He will be All-State as a DB too.

OK, try again. The article is on page D3 of the Herald's football preview insert from Aug. 18th. The title is " Mr. Football contenders make versatility a virture". Do I need to type the exact paragraph or can you find it now? Nevermind....I'll go ahead:

"Bell County linebacker Brent Slusher, who has committed to Auburn, has to be mentioned as a player-of-the-year possibility."

Clear enough? Still funny?

Hilarious!!!:jump: :jump:..... Because I still don't see his name among the 7 listed Mr. Football Candidates. The article your so politely speaking about talks about most of the 50 "50 Top Players In Kentucky" list. This thread was about the 7 LISTED Mr. Football Candidates. And his name is not on there. I'm not saying it shouldn't be because I've never seen the kid play. He very well could win Mr. Football but he's not on the list right now.OK. Lighten up buddy, take a vacation or something.

Sad not to see anyone from Northern Kentucky on that list:cry:

Bobby Owens, Knott Central had 303 yards rushing in 2.5 quarters Friday night, had 93 more yards ,and a TD wiped out in penalties, scored 4 TDs and this Kid never even got a mention in state previews and, Oh by the way he averaged 212 yds a game last season!

Owens' statistics are impressive, but his problem is Knott County Central's weak schedule. Owens may not be the last player to rush for 300 yards against Jenkins this season. If Owens breaks loose for 200 yards against Sheldon Clark and Clay County it will be much more impressive than his performance against Jenkins, especially if he leads his team to wins.
How about being in the heart of Kentucky (Scott Co.)!

Cody Andrews;

As a Sophomore took Scott.Co. to the finals of 4A Championship. His Third Year as varisity QB. has respectable record. He's got the height the ARM but there's one thing he doesn't have and that's a famous daddy's last name.:irked:

All the reason in the world for the young man to give 110% on every play, work his tail off in the weight room, keep learning his position every day, keep holding his head high etc.

If he wins! he could be very proud of his accomplishments!!! Ask the 2005 TRINITY Football Team how it felt doing all of that last year and then winning the State Championship!!.:dancingpa

Don't think so--that's a separate column:rolleyes: What do you think the title and "player-of-the-year possibility" indicate???????????????????????? I'll take the vacation....you take the comprehension exam. Furthermore, your opinion of whether or not he should be on it or if you've seen him play doesn't matter --- Auburn has. I think that speaks volumes.

"Player of the Year Possibilities" means exactly that, possibilities. Anyone one of those 50 players, or 5000 players for that matter, are possibilities. That does not mean they are considered candidates. I opened this thread to get the names of the 7 CANDIDATES listed by The Herald-Leader on the back of the football preview. There are seven names and pictures listed on the back page who are considered to be the candidates for Mr. Football. I did not mean the 5000 different possibilites for Mr. Football, I meant the 7 considered leading candidates. Listen, I didn't mean to step on your toes, smack your dog, or hurt your feelings in any way. I'm really glad the Slusher kid has had Auburn look at him, I hope he gets offered a scholarship. I love to see KY kids go to the next level, no matter what school they attend. It's good for KY football. I never said anything negative about the kid, nor will I ever. I hope he wins the Heisman in the future....(Sorry, I have a pick for Mr. Football)I thought you were a little quick to get hostile and call me out, so I reacted accordingly. I'm really sorry if I affended you in any way, that was not my intent. Enjoy your vacation.
