The athletic department revenue is top-25 nationally; the facilities are on par with any school in the SEC; the fan support would be through the roof if they had sustained success. However, it continues to be a Sisyphean task. A few years back (Stoops' first year?), they had a top-20 recruiting class....but it was ninth in the conference. The only argument I've ever heard that holds water is "it's difficult to recruit at the northernmost school in a southern conference". If they ever truly competed for a conference championship, it would be epic.

May 31, 201610 yr Needless to say, we (UK fans) have gotten used to seeing very bad football in the bluegrass. I bet folks who were tired of going to the music city bowl with Brooks sing a little different tune now. Nope I sing the same tune as before. I think UK wasn't going to go much further under Brooks and I said it then. I also said he had laid a great foundation though and argued on here many times how UK was wrong just giving it to Joker. UK had a chance to take that next step and would have been an attractive job for up and coming successful head coaches from mid major schools or even a top assistant from a traditional football power. That decision is what killed the ground work Brooks led. Uk could have taken another step forward but we're dumb and did the Coach in waiting thing.

June 1, 201610 yr Author I think the PR spin if they do is clear. Just say, "well we play in the SEC and we have to play 8 conference games a year. It's such a tough league that we get beat up physically, so we really feel like we need to schedule our non-conference games against non-power 5 teams". This is the excuse that UK fans use when UofL beats them now, so it will work for dropping UofL too.

This is the excuse that UK fans use when UofL beats them now, so it will work for dropping UofL too. Dropping your biggest rival because you can't beat them? Nah. No PR spin can fix that and it would be the beginning of the end to the football program IMO. It would become useless.
