Johnson Central 40 North Laurel 6

Is that expectation part of the contract that JC signed? If so, then you have a case. If not, then maybe the CV organizers should amend the contract terms.

Excellent point. This is the first time that there has ever been a problem. Up until this year, the "honor" system has worked just fine. I was told that the contract terms will be amended, and that if it ever happens again, the offender will only get half of the agreed payout.

For the record: I could care less who shows up at media night, or who is cooperative with the press, I'm not in the media.

You brought up the point, I just responded to your post. I could also not care less about whether Matney wants to make a six-hour round trip to a high school media event. This seems like a pretty petty issue to me.

You are correct. JC has never won a state title. In fact, the school has never won a regional title either. However, I assume when the Golden Eagles win their first state title, some hardware would come back with them to Paintsville. I believe that is what xyience meant. "Bring the state title home to eagleville" might have been a better way to phrase it. I thought the meaning of his post was fairly clear even if the wording was a bit imprecise."

If I didnt do the quote right, then I'm sorry... but I will learn.

Johnson Central never has had a football program to hang their hat on. Never making past the 2nd round of the playoffs, and several loosing seasons. I probably could have used better word choice. But the point still got across that Johnson Central wants and feels that the 3A state title will be in eagleville this year.

We need to worry about taking care of business against South Point this week and take it one week at a time and strive to get better every week. All this state title talk is nonsense. I love the enthusiasm but it does nothing but opens our kids and program up to criticism because we have a LONG way to go to even be considered a contender for a championship. Lets just take it one week at a time. :thumb:

Who has he refused to trade films with? I know that talk was brought up for the Madison Southern game last year but tell be Boucher what other teams has he not traded films with? He traded with North Laurel's coach last Saturday. When was the media night? Plain and simple is it's his job to win football games and have his young men prepared every Friday night and that's what Johnson Central hired him for. I can guarantee you he's not going to miss any time on the practice field so he can attend a media night that is over two hours away. The thought of him doing so is flat out dumb.

You want to talk about film ask North Laurel's coach about the quality of film that Johnson Central gave them compared to the film that Central received. Heck one of the films that JC received was filmed by a fan in the stands. The second half was on the beginning of the tape while the first half was at the end. If you want to talk about film trading have a clue as to what you’re talking about first.

I have no idea about the tapes from NL and JCHS from this year. However, I do know for a fact, that Matney refused to trade tapes with North Laurel when they were in the same district together and did the same to South Laurel last year. That isn't speculation, but a fact.

He didn't provide the roster last year after numerous requests. Ask LES about this and he can confirm my information is accurate.

Les has had a problem with Johnson Central since the 2000 season when South Laurel was defeated at Johnson Central during the Golden Eagles' perfect season. So, personally, I don't put a lot of stock in what he has to say.

5:17 Showed on the clock when Asher took a hit and coughed up the ball Central’s Tommy Taylor pounced on it. The North’s defense got a huge sack from Chris Maggard as he dropped J. K. Ratliff for a bog loss. The first quarter would end with Central holding the lead, 6-0.

North would get its only score of the game with 2:55 left in the game when Lowell Adams hit Cam Cornett for a 62-yard touchdown.

Your analysis & breakdown was excellent! Just 2 errors.

The sack was actually by Trevor Pennington

The TD pass was actually from FROSH Adrian Wardrup (he is wearing #13 as Lowell Adams SR is out for the season with a broken collarbone).

Well done Newcath!!! :thumb:

Ok, your right. If I remeber correctly, Coach Matney said on their wymt pigskin preview that "If we think that we are winners, then we are going to be winners." I was at the state football championship last year, lexington catholic and bowling green had good teams. We have a good team this year, all the tools are there. It takes more than a good team to win a state title, a little bit of luck and having the ball bounce our way a couple of times. The season is young, we may not win another game the rest of this year. Who knows, but it sure is fun to make predictions.

If that’s a fact he obliviously didn't need any film on the opposing team. The point I'm trying to make is if a coach is busting his butt scouting other teams during scrimmages or during the regular season and keeping his team prepared while his counter part is setting at home waiting for his scouting tape that’s provided by his opponent why would he trade. If a coach doesn't think he needs film on the other team why would he trade? To help the other coach out? Come on guys that’s crazy. Personally I think all this crying about film trading or the lack there of is absurd.

I did not mean to sound critical of you, xyience. I understood what you were saying and I am sure that almost everybody else who follows Kentucky high school football did as well. Johnson Central fans get reminded of past Golden Eagles' teams' playoff performances after nearly every impressive regular season win. We would be fools to claim a non-existent state football title. Some people just like to rain on other people's parades I guess.

BTW, thanks for the updates Friday night. Nice job.:thumb:

If he had a problem with the previously, I don't understand why the coach before Matney took over had no problem exchanging tapes and no problem in sending the media a quick synopsis of his team (as well as the roster) for their district breakdowns. Les does a good job at covering the kids and often, doing the CVB program for all the teams in the bowl games. I know that coaches are busy, but why can every other coach do these little things?

Don't get me wrong, .. Matney is a GREAT coach and his track record speaks for itself. Most teams would LOVE to have a coach with his knowledge, dedication and ability to turn a program around. However, there were posts on BGP about his refusal to trade tapes the past 2 years, so none of this should be a big surprise.

BTW, when Duncum was still at N Laurel, Matney asked him personally stating that they REALLY wanted to get into the CVB bowl game. Duncum obliged him as JCHS was a program on the rise and a mountain school even though Matney had refused to exchange tapes with him just weeks before. However, basically not cooperating at all with the bowl organizers and the local media who all worked their butts off to put on this bowl game every year the past 6 seasons, is a slap in the face. But I guess when they don't get invited back, Matney can just say that even more teams are 'ducking' the Eagles. It won't be true, but I guess perception is in the eye of the beholder.

This game started with a bang when on the games first play from scrimmage as Shawn Grimm scored from 59-yards out. The point after was blocked by the talented Shawn Asher keeping the score, 6-0 Central.

5:17 Showed on the clock when Asher took a hit and coughed up the ball Central’s Tommy Taylor pounced on it. The North’s defense got a huge sack from Trevor Pennington as he dropped J. K. Ratliff for a bog loss. The first quarter would end with Central holding the lead, 6-0.

Grimm would show some nice power when he went up the gut of the North’s defense for a 14-yard gain with 11:37 left in the half. Then with 10:34 showing on the clock, Ian Welch took a pitch and gained twelve yards. The five play sixty nine yard drive would come to an end when Grimm took a pitch and scored from 34-yards out making the score 12-0. A two-point conversion tried failed for Central keeping the score 12-0.

Central would score again with 7:02 left in the half when Ratliff hooked up with Taylor for a 41-yard score making the score 18-0. Welch made good on a two-point conversion run increasing the lead to 20-0.

The Central defense got to Justin Jones for a sack with 4:25 left in the half and from there they forced a punt as it appeared the defense was now making a big statement. Central, who showed a lot of talented running backs would score again when Chris Hill scampered in from 20-yards out and after James Barrett hit the point after the scoreboard read 27-0, Central.

Neither team had done much in the third as the defenses were making things very difficult and this show big time when Nathaniel Dials got to Tommy Lawson for a seven-yard sack. Then with 1:18 left in the quarter Dials again got to Lawson for a sack causing a fumble that Dials picked up in the end zone for a Central touchdown. The point after was blocked but Central was up 33-0 at this point. 33-0 was the score as the quarter came to an end.

There were two scores in the final frame one each by both teams. For Central Kyle Underwood carried six straight time scoring from one yard out on the last one. Barrett hit the point after to make the score 40-0. North would get its only score of the game with 2:55 left in the game when Adrian Wardrup hit Cam Cornett for a 62-yard touchdown.

Thanks.

I think they are correct now if I read your post the way I should have.

:thumb: I couldn't agree more.

I think that it's great if two coaches agree in advance to exchange tapes if it is done to save some time and money on scouting. However, a coach may have very good reasons for wanting his staff to scout a team in person. If a coach believes that refusing to exchange tapes will give his team a competitive edge, then there is no reason that he should be villified for refusing to trade. OTOH, if a coach agrees to exchange tapes, sends scouts to watch the other team, and then reneges on his agreement, then I say piling on the coach would be justified. :D
