You all have obvisouly missed my point with my post, I believe after watching Raceland this summer that they are definetly the best in their district. They are in my opionion probably top 2 or 3 in the Region...All I was stating was that despite your notion if going to the region as runner-ups was such a great accomplishment, if what you are saying about how well they became a team after Vanderhoof went down why were they unable to win their district or a game in the region?? Again, please understand I agree that every team suffers greatly win they lose a star, but if you guys truely believe this then please explain to me how Rowan Co. won the Regional Championship the year before last with no less than 4 season ending injuries to key players on their team? Guys, I wish all your teams the best and believe that this year will be one of the most competitive in our Region for a long time...please don't think I am taking shots at anyone or any school, just stating my opionion...

Once again - I have never once said that Rowan's schedule will make them the champion of the region. I made a simple statement that their schedule is the toughest in the region and there's not really any way to combat that statement. I think the two 6' girls that joined the team this summer will be the reason that Rowan wins the region.

Sounds like Russell will be down this year.

I am sure the rest of the region will take advantage of the great opportunity to beat up on the down trodden Lady Devils.

Rowan still had the best player in the region in Melanie Cornett and a very experienced supporting cast. Plus they had a cakewalk to the finals that year with wins over Bath, Morgan, Lewis, and a far less talented and younger Raceland team that now exists. Comparing apples and oranges picknroll.

With all due respect to Raceland, I believe that Russell will be the favorite to win the 63rd District. As I recall, Russell only lost one starter and Okora and Fortman will match up well with any two players in the region including Rose Hill and the heralded Rowan County. The district draw in the 63rd will be particularly important. However, one fact is certain. Rowan County does, without doubt, play in the weakest district in the region.

 

Injuries, as is often the case with the girls, will play a major part in the outcome of the region. It sure took its toll on WC last year.

 

Picknroll and Wireman seem to be hedging a little in regard to the Rowan County coronation. Just as the Russell people and the Raceland people feel confident, I feel confident about Rose Hill. Nevertheless, we are all too experienced in this stuff to come out blowing smoke about what our teams will do in March of 2007. I would think that Rowan Countians, being in a county with an institute of higher learning and all, would do the same. But, then, I am apparently wrong in this assumption.

After watching the very talented Rose Hill team play in Bowling Green last year, which I truly enjoyed, I am looking forward to seeing them play this year. Terry and Queen were/are awesome to watch and I loved the leadership skills and maturity displayed by Kala Faulkner. Best wishes to her as she begins her college classes this fall!

My preseason picks for the 16th region for 2006-2007

 

1. Rose Hill- Faulkner, Queen, and Terry are going to be tough

2. Russell- Fortman and Okora, plus one of the best coaches in the state.

3 West Carter- They will have 5 guards who can shoot the ball and they are all quick, plus they can handle the ball and take it to the hole.

4. Raceland- They are going to be very good this year. Seals- Division I, plus the Porter sisters along with Vanderhoof. They could be #1 before end of the regular season.

5. East Carter- Coach Easterling will have his girls ready. Tackett and Myers are back plus a great young cast of girls. They had a great summer, they will be one of the best teams this year in the 16th region. Coach Easterling one of the best coaches in the state. Period!

6. Boyd Co- Returns 4 starters back plus they have 3 really good guards.

7. Ashland- Watch out for these girls! They will be very tough this season, they have beaten almost everyone this summer. They are young and Coach Coach Bradley has a lot of girls returning that can shoot with anyone.

8. Rowan Co.- They are young and they play hard. The question will be how will they score?

9. Morgan Co- They have a new coach with a lot of young talent. Leslie Eagle may be the best athletic guard in the region with Whitney Seals.

10. Fleming Co- Don't forget about the Lady Panthers. Coach Orem still returns a lot plus her kids play very hard. They can beat anyone on a given night. One of the best defensive teams in the region.

I believe he is talking about the Raceland team when this year's seniors were sophmores...Cornette graduated 2 years ago...He's saying that this year's Raceland team is better and more mature than that team 2 years ago when Rowan won the region...:thumb:

Old Vet, I like some of the picks that you have made. Everyone please understand, first I'm not from Rowan County. Second, Oh how we all soon forget who Led the Runner-up State Champion Lady Royals at the half and into the 3rd Quarter of the Region Final with not even a 10th of the talent at that time. Now, Rowan loses nothing but gains what they were missing in size inside and an atheletic guard and please someone tell me why they shouldn't be preseason #1??? Think on this one before replying...it is tough to not want your own team to be #1 but facts are facts and we all have seen what A TROY LEE THOMAS led team is capable of.

Picknroll, did you ever think that Rose Hill's emotional game with Russell (the co-favorite) the night before and the letdown from not playing West Carter (as was expected) for the championship had anything to do with Rose Hill's poor two and a half quarter performance? As I recall, when Rose Hill did finally decide it needed to play, it mattered not that it was late in the third quarter because the outcome was inevitable. This year may be different. However, the regional final was as close as Rowan County could ever play Rose Hill last year. All the nuances were lined up in that game for Rowan to pull an upset. But, in the end Rose Hill woke up and Rowan's dream ended. No one was surprised.
