I'm finding it very hard to say this, but, I agree with Scooterbob.:eek: While it is important to play good competition, winning is a habit as is losing. Girls seem to be even more susceptible to be being beaten down emotionally from getting killed over and over. I will not argue Rowan's past success, but it is not necessarily an indication of how this year's players will handle things.

I believe it was due to the fact that they were wanting free of games to be able to play in some more events down state. Once a team is off the schedule it is often logistically difficult to work out new dates.

I think Rowan had to drop some games due to the mandate from the EKC to play everyone in the conference or lose their membership both boys and girls.

I'm sure the decision was based strictly on principle.:lol: But, then, from the looks of the schedule, Rowan County will receive enough rearend kickings whether they play the local top teams or not.

 

I don't find a lot of validity in the apparent argument that you prepare for the tournaments by enduring loss after loss to superior teams. Somehow, a good win over a comparable team sure beats, I would think, onesided losses to schools like Louisville Assumption, LexCath, and Scott County. Maybe it can be argued that you get better by playing superior teams. On the other hand, you can be so beaten up physically and beaten down mentally that it really doesn't matter.

 

Too much emphasis is being placed on Rowan County's win over West Carter and good first half against Rose Hill in the regional tournament last season. West Carter was shorthanded but, I think, on most nights still the superior team and Rose Hill took a half to focus after the emotional win over the co-region favorite, Russell, the night before. However, once they focused, Rowan County's tough schedule preparation meant little other than an overall losing season.

Doubtless, Coach Thomas will schedule more...but it does make it all the more puzzling why he won't commit to playing Rose Hill. Unless he has scheduled a number of games that are not yet posted with the KHSAA, it appears there is room to get two with RHCS on the calendar. It would be good to see those two matched up twice in the regular season and possibly again in Morehead.

When is the ceremony for "Toughest Schedule"??? I don't remember them receiving a trophy for that at the region tournament last year...

 

I noticed on the KHSAA schedule that East Cater, Boyd, & Russell are also on the schedule but Wireman failed to include them as part of a tough schedule...Guess those 3 games are sure wins because those teams won't be very good...

Since Wireman didn't mention Russell, I assumed they weren't on the Rowan County schedule. If anyone at Rowan County doesn't believe that Russell is worthy of mention with the others, they will be in for a less than pleasant surprise when they play the Lady Devils.

1) I didn't list the entire schedule; just the out of region teams that I know of - screwed up on Rose Hill because I saw someone else post that

There is now ceremony but then again I didn't say there was a ceremony. I said, quite simply, that Rowan has the toughest schedule in the region and probably a top 10 schedule in the state. Nothing to argue about there as it is just a fact.
