Cost analysis of illegal immigration

Featured Replies

From the article.

Key Findings:

Illegal immigration costs U.S. taxpayers about $113 billion a year at the federal, state and local level. The bulk of the costs — some $84 billion — are absorbed by state and local governments.

The annual outlay that illegal aliens cost U.S. taxpayers is an average amount per native-headed household of $1,117. The fiscal impact per household varies considerably because the greatest share of the burden falls on state and local taxpayers whose burden depends on the size of the illegal alien population in that locality

Education for the children of illegal aliens constitutes the single largest cost to taxpayers, at an annual price tag of nearly $52 billion. Nearly all of those costs are absorbed by state and local governments.

At the federal level, about one-third of outlays are matched by tax collections from illegal aliens. At the state and local level, an average of less than 5 percent of the public costs associated with illegal immigration is recouped through taxes collected from illegal aliens.

Most illegal aliens do not pay income taxes. Among those who do, much of the revenues collected are refunded to the illegal aliens when they file tax returns. Many are also claiming tax credits resulting in payments from the U.S. Treasury.

This is a very real problem, regardless of what some may say. I don't have all the answers but this is a problem that needs to be addressed at both state and federal levels.

It all comes down to securing the border. Once that is done, incarceration rates drop, public financial support for illegals drops, drug trafficking is made much more difficult. Then once the the border is secured, dealing with the issue of anchor babies is necessary.

But when we have Senators McCain and Flake from Arizona, the State hit hardest by illegal immigration, complaining that they will be voted out of office if Trump is at the top of the ticket, it becomes clear that continued employment in The Senate and Congress is a lot more important that servicing their constituency. They even have no problem compromising the security of their own constituency.

This is what McCain had to say in 2008 when he was running for President :

Now that he is up for re election for Senate, this is his tune :

McCain caught on tape: Trump hurts my chances for reelection - YouTube

I would love nothing more than for Trump to cut the cord with the establishment GOP in a very public, brutal fashion!

The vast majority of academic and government studies have concluded that illegal immigrants actually pay more taxes into the system than they receive in benefits.

So you dispute the findings of the study?

I don't dispute any of the costs. They are clear. My question and feeling is that like it or not, they do significantly add to the economy, both on the production end in the jobs they hold and on the consumption end as spenders. Those are the numbers I'd like to see and get more clarity on.

Since illegal immigrants do not have social security numbers, how then do they pay taxes?

There are an estimated 13 million illegal immigrants according to the study. The current population of the United States is 319 million. State and local medical costs for illegal immigrants are estimated at 10 percent.

Yes, I question some of the conclusions of the study.

Here is my cost-analysis:

Government Benefits that are conferred upon illegal aliens: A Lot.

Taxes that illegal aliens pay: Not as much.

Value of labor, and sales taxes paid, and consumer spending: A lot.

Final Balance sheet figure: Who can really say

Continued Presence of illegal aliens here driving conservatives crazy: Priceless.

So you dispute the findings of the study?

Some critics of FAIR (author of the study) have accused the group of being a quasi white supremacist organization. I think it's fair (no pun intended) to say that the study cherry-picked its supporting data. But who cares, right? Carry on.

Somehow, I cannot find a study on this topic written by a liberal organization. Can it be that it is just more convenience to maintain liberal ignorance on this subject?

So if it came from a George Soros funded group it would be Gospel for you. :ohbrother:

Here's a 7-page response to the FAIR immigration report. Lots of footnotes, too. That must mean someone actually did their homework.

Does not address my point in post#8. They may pay something in sales tax, but income tax, no way. Most of what they make, goes back to Mexico.

Got to love our global economy. Illegal Hispanic immigrants buying goods from Wal Mart manufactured in plants in China by Asian workers. Somebody point out the benefit to the US here? I'm missing it. Granted, The Waltons are making Billions and contributing to The Clinton Foundation ...............
