Camryn Whitaker new women's coach at NKU

Featured Replies

NKU has hired one of the up and coming women's coaches in Camryn Whitaker. Her playing and coaching pedigrees evidence this young lady is ready to lead NKU to new heights. After her high school career at Harrison Co. she was named 2nd Team All-State. She was only the second player in Ky to score over 2,000 points and 1,000 assists. She led Harrison to two trips to the Sweet Sixteen. She received a D1 scholarship to Western Ky. University where she started for four years and led the Toppers to post season play every year.

Following graduation she filled Assistant Coach roles at Austin Peay and Southwest Missouri. She then spent three years at Dayton which went to the NCAA each year and defeated Kentucky in 2015 to go to Elite Eight. UK was fortunate to lure her to the women's program where they advanced to the NCAA, losing in the second round.

This hire by NKU speaks volumes to their committment to taking the program to new levels. Coach Whitaker's recruiting experience in high level D1 programs, her vast coaching knowledge, and her youthful energy (35) make this hire strategically smart.

Hats off to NKU and best of fortunes to Coach Whitaker and the future of the program.

Great hire for NKU.

Great hire for NKU.

Agree, probably could have went to a High Division 1 school with her resume and would have liked to have seen Barnhart promote her to Head Coach after all this Mitchell hoopla. UK let a good one get away.

How long will NKU be able to keep her?

Is this her first HC job? If so, it'll all depend on her success/failure at NKU. She's been at successful programs so hopefully she brings those experiences with her.

I love NKU as much as anyone, but I fully realize we are not a destination job. When our coaches leave it means they have done a great job and are in demand. I hope we are always a revolving door for great coaches.

As far as Whitaker's introductory press conference, it could not have gone any better IMO. It wasn't polished, it wasn't rehearsed, and it wasn't filled with coach speak; however, it came across as genuine, grateful, and sincere from a quality individual. Have no clue how she will do as a coach, but by all account this (like John Brannen last year) appears to be a solid hire.

Great person and coach. Loves tough nosed players and will want to score in transition. She will be successful.

Here's hoping that Coach brings over a vball player to fill out the roster for next year.
