Roots (2016)

Thanks for posting this. I'll have to try and remember when it's a little closer and record it.

I'm hoping with this coming out some channel will rebroadcast the original also. Watched every episode as a kid, I'd love to watch it again as an "old man" being able to understand better what was actually going on.

I found the original series on DVD for really cheap at Wal-Mart a few years back. Added it to the collection.

Rook.

Anyone watching the re-make of the 1977 show?

Pass. It's not a subject I enjoy watching.

It is tough to watch. My wife passed for the same reason.

According to the producer, Mark Wolper ...

"Just as the original Roots used a brutally honest portrayal of slavery to start a conversation, the 2016 remake will try to tell the story in a way that helps it resonate with modern audiences and reflect the current dialogue surrounding race. And that is a much more important goal than making every little detail historically accurate."

Sounds like it'll be done "Son's of Liberty" style, not true to history and not true to the book (I know the historical accuracy of the book is also in question). Sorry, I'll pass.

Read the book years ago and have it in my library. I'll re-read it, instead.

The "say your name" scene was ROUGH to watch again.

My guess is that the real thing was exponentially tougher. Just a guess, though.

Seen the original and enjoying this version very much. The scenes have been pretty powerful IMO.

I recorded it and looking forward to watching it.

While scenes might be rough to watch, I personally feel like it is important to continue putting this out there, it shouldn't be forgotten.

It definitely was. I really couldn't imagine what it would be like to be in that type of situation.

Finished watching the miniseries this weekend and enjoyed it.
