I think the comments tend to be the worst of the worst, that is to say the bottom 15%. The huge number of reasonable viewers simply don't bother to get into the mud with them. No way I believe it represents the site. If BGP was not managed the way it is the most off the wall posters would dominate the thread, it already happens in many threads and this site is managed far better than others. That would not represent the far greater numbers of reasonable people viewing the site.

I would posit that the comments/posts of any site represent its constituency. Vile or not.

If PP92's contention is that people hate Fox News (fairly or unfairly) because of the types of people that they attract who are represented in the comments section why was the title deemed misleading?

 

Saying that Fox News attracts racists does not say that EVERY person who follows Fox News IS racist. They do attract racists. They attract homophobes. They attract people who are down on their luck and want to blame other groups.

 

Doesn't mean the intelligent folk who also like Fox News fall into those categories.

 

BUT it does mean that the PERCEPTION of Fox News is just that BY those who hate Fox News.
