Has this happened before in Kentucky High School Football

Featured Replies

Not sure this has ever happen before in High School Football, at least not in Kentucky, but.... CovCath does not play a single game on natural grass during the regular 06 season.

COVINGTON CATHOLIC COLONELS

BOONE COUNTY, Artificial Turf at CovCath

Cincinnati Elder at University of Cincinnati, Artificial Turf at UC

DIXIE HEIGHTS, Artificial Turf at CovCath

Newport Central Catholic, Artificial Turf at Newport

Beechwood, Artificial Turf at Beechwood

Cincinnati St. Xavier, Artificial Turf at Cincinnati X

BISHOP WATTERSON, Artificial Turf at CovCath

SOUTH OLDHAM, Artificial Turf at CovCath

GRANT COUNTY, Artificial Turf at CovCath

Highlands, Turf at Artificial Highlands

Going to do wonders for their laundry bills!

They could also see a playoff situation like this...

1st Rd @CCH

2nd Rd @CCH/HHS

3rd Rd @CCH/LexCath

It would be interesting to see that 4th playoff game on the cold, dead grass in EKY to say the least...

Looks like artificial turf is the direction football is heading. If it wasn't there 10 years ago.

I don't know about that.....the small schools simply don't have the funds to convert their fields unless they raise private donations, ie Education Foundations. It is just too difficult for some schools.

I kind of think it is a bummer if I'm a kid and I am playing everygame on AT.

Maybe it is just the old school in me but there was always something about being on the bottom of a pile and smelling the grass,dirt,sweat......now all you smell anymore is the crushed rubber it seems like.

I agree with you on the cost factor for small schools. Raceland (a class A schol) has a form of the "field turf" installed last year though. I don't know exactly what it is called but it is a combo of shreadded tires with other substances that is sprayed on and bonds with the existing grass to help rersist wear an tear, water, etc. on the field. he players seemed to like it. One major plus for this imo is that it is much more forgiving and "spongy" and may help reduce injuries in that aspect of it.

It is called "Crumb Rubber". It makes the playing surface very soft and helps prevent injury and drains very well. It is made from tires that are shredded and ran through a machine that removes all metal from the rubber. It has made a big difference on our surface at Raceland and the players really like it.

I would think that this has never happened before in Ky. Although a possible semifinal matchup in the mud of Bell County would make up for not playing on natural surfaces all year.

And to think, that I didn't even realize that, I did it.....Not :D

You know, that is the one thing that makes the team from Ft. Thomas and CovCath rivalry so special, it isn't just the games, be it football, basketball, baseball whenever, it the fun we have with each other, and for the most part, most don't get upset or mad if it is done in good taste or in the spirit of fun....;)

Good luck tonight Ft. Thomas fans....

Very interesting, they'll play more games on plastic than most teams on the pro and collegiate level.
