The thing is PP, you're absolutely right about time and depth to compete for championships in the SEC. I'm only talking about winning 3 games in the SEC though. Also, developing those guys a little better. I saw in another thread that Joker's average class ranking was 44 (a bunch of 3 stars and a few two stars) and Stoops average class is 32 (a good mix of 4 stars and high 3 stars). I made Joker reference because anyone on that roster this season should be good enough to compete. I'd be willing to bet that 99% of the players on this season's team are Stoops' kids though. Now all of his first class 4 stars like Timmons are Seniors, and will be playing and starting for four years in the SEC. and others Juniors as well. And they're the best group of talent UK has ever had. So with that being said, he shouldn't be held accountable if they can't win 3 SEC games? That's still a losing record in the SEC. Vandy did it with worse players. Heck UK did it with worse talent with Brooks. The question wasn't to beat the Bamas and Georgias. It was to beat the bottom feeders of the league and teams on down years and win simply 2 or 3 SEC games. Is that too difficult with the best talent ever assembled at a school for a 4 year period? Those 2-3 SEC wins are enough to get them to bowls and a 6-7 win season with an easy non-conference schedule. I'm asking if he should get canned if they simply aren't a below average team. They have above average players.

 

Not yet because it still needs to be taken into account that despite how many stars players have when they arrive on campus some will pan out and others won't. Matt Elam. Jason Hatcher. Injuries also come into play as well. The reason schools like FSU and Alabama are so great is because when their stud RB gets hurt the guy right behind him is just as good if not better. When Boom got hurt last season UK's running game suffered big time. Patience is needed. I wouldn't entertain firing Stoops for at least another 3 years.

If he doesn't get atleast 4 he's probably gone. But with getting the talent were are getting now I hope he gets to stay another couple years.

People keep comparing UK to Vandy during the Franklin years. That's not really fair, the coaching job he did at Vandy was unreal and is exactly why he is no longer at Vandy. It is similar to people comparing Tubby to Rick at UK. What Rick did at UK was unbelievable and is not fair comparing anyone to that era. Compare the non Franklin Vandy years to UK and Stoops looks fine.

Two SEC wins will not get UK a bowl. UK will most likely beat So. Miss, Austin Peay and New Mexico State, but there is no way they are beating UofL in Louisville. I bet UofL could beat the bottom two thirds of the SEC at Louisville. No way Stoops can be expected to win that game, Kragthorpe no longer coaches the Cardinals.

 

To go bowling, UK has to beat S. Miss, Austin Peay, NM St. and then win three out of four against Vandy, Mizzou, Miss St. and S. Carolina. I feel good about 2 out of 4, 3 out of 4 will be tough. If by some slim chance, UK gets all 4, Stoops is the man.

Brooks was another coach who fans were foolishly calling for his firing in his first 3-4 years until he could set a foundation to build on. By no means am I willing to bet the farm that Stoops is the man who will lead UK to consistent bowls, but I do think he needs more than four years to be given a chance because let's face it, what better coaches are out there just waiting to take over such a great job like UK? Depends how this season goes. If he only gets 4 wins, he comes back but will be made well aware that 4 wins will not be tolerated again. If he gets five wins, he is back for certain and if he can keep up recruiting, is not yet on the hot seat.

I imagine somewhere around there. If things are not looking to be on the up and up after 6 years I imagine he will be on the hot seat. With the classes he is bringing in I imagine there will be some improvement the next few years though. It takes time, a lot of "fans" don't realize that. UK football was in a terrible situation before he arrived. What Stoops and his staff is able to accomplish is still up in the air, but he certainly needs to be given time to right the ship.

I am truly amazed at the amount of UK football fans that don't have this same mindset.

He took a program in the crapper that was recruiting classes ranking in the 50's and now in the 30's. I would say the is a heck of an improvement, none the less, classes in the mid 30's STILL puts at the bottom of the SEC. Make sense?
