I might be wrong, but I'm thinking his contract is set up so that it would be financially foolish, in terms of a buyout, to get rid of him should the team have a poor season.

I don't care how many games he wins if UK fires Bob Stoops after this season then the football program should just disband. For real. It will be a waste of everyone's time and money if they fire Stoops after this season.

 

UK gave Grandpa Brooks a lot more time than people thought he deserved and they will need to do the same for Stoops. Many UK fans are delusional in believing that the job UK is an attractive job simply because it is in the SEC and UK can ditch a coach after 3-5 years and expect a good replacement can be found. To possibly someday attract a good coach, UK needs to set a precident that shows it gives coaches plenty of time before canning them to even hope of landing a decent replacement.

I'd be a lot higher on Stoops if he could beat Louisville.

Not sure where SEC Football come into any of this directly. I never said win an SEC title, I said improvement. They can improve and still lose in the SEC, the SEC is still ran by a few top teams. UK should not be the doormat of the SEC though, but lets look past that, you cant claim there's been improvement when you get punched in the face by EKU and darn near lose the game. Thats not improvement.

I'm with everyone that it takes some time, and I honestly believe that UK "could" win 8 games this year. Then again I thought they'd at least win 7 last year after starting 5-0 or 5-1 whichever it was. What I think everyone is missing (that one poster has made), is that it's expected to take 3 more years or so to start challenging for divisional titles. I'm simply saying don't be last or second to last in the conference. Like win 2-3 SEC games. Not go 5-2 in SEC or anything like that. I saw James Franklin lead Vanderbilt two 2 straight 9 win seasons in the same division (with bowl wins). He was only there 3 seasons, and went to 3 straight bowls. Kentucky's schedule is no more brutal than Vandy's, and that was coming off of 2 straight 2-10 years before Franklin got there. That's with a smaller pool of players to recruit from with higher academic restrictions at Vandy. So while I think UK gets to a bowl game this year, I also don't think that 7-8 wins is too much to expect when his first class will be seniors this season. Look at winnable games on schedule Non-conf (Southern Miss, New Mex. St., Austin Peay, & toss up with Louisville) Conf (South Carolina, Vandy, miss st. (no more Dak Prescott) in Lex, Missou). They should at least get 6 of those, and could potentially steal an upset in another game not against Alabama. I hope they do well (except for Nov. 26). I know some kids on the roster personally. Just figured fans would expect a little more. Great that Stoops has that support though.

Difference between the coach Vandy hired and the coach UK hired.

It is really amazing to me how many people think UK can just run out and grab a great coach like they grow on trees.

 

This truly is one of the worst football destinations there is, and has historically been a coaching graveyard.

 

-Part of that is that we have always been a basketball school.

-Part is because there has never been enough in-state talent. (that is getting better)

-Part is because the schedule will always be brutal.

-Part is because the fan base is unwilling to give a coach a chance to succeed.

-There are more parts.

 

 

On the positive.

-We have a guy here who wants to be here.

-He has a football pedigree and knows how to recruit.

-Moving from coordinator to head coach has a learning curve. Especially in a BCS conference.

-In an ideal world you want a guy with HC experience. Well this isn't an ideal world.

-Is he lightening in a bottle like Franklin was at Vandy - no. But no one had heard of Franklin before his success at Vandy, and maybe he just got lucky and walked into some talent.
