Craft Beers - Where's Your Go-To Spot?

Go to Biscuit Head for brunch. Every day you are there. Thank me later...

I think your best bet is to keep your go to spot (of which Party Souce is awesome) but try to limit it to maybe half your visits unless it is super close to your house or something. Make a point to stop at some hole in the wall liquor stores or even gas stations or grocery stores and keep some mental notes. If the craft selection is Guiness and Amber Bock know that you won't be back, but if it looks like there is a little creativity, check back whenever you're in the neighborhood.

A few years ago, when bourbon was starting to get more popular but before it was like it is today, a buddy of mine stopped at the Kroger liquor store in Latonia to pick up a bottle of wine and came across a bottle of 20 year old Pappy that he obviously didn't pass up. Another friend had similar luck at a hole in the wall in Covington. I saw MJ found some Zombie Dust at Bluegrass, and recently I stopped at a liquor store in Bellevue that isn't Party Source and noticed they had a case of 4 packs of Hopslam. Sometimes the selection doesn't matter as much as whether the clientele picks over what they do have.

One other recommendation is to check out Halfcut in OTR. I think you can make your own 6 pack, but I don't know if they charge the same price as if you were drinking there. Their tap selection is always changing and usually much different than what you find in stores. They have a walk-up window, but a nice date idea is to order a couple turtles from Gomez and have them deliver them to you while you have a few beers at Halfcut and play some of the board games that they have.

My mouth waters just thinking about it. Best brunch I've ever had...

I'm probably heading to Colorado this summer. Asheville is great, but I think that Denver has it beat. The list of breweries in the area is as big as I've ever seen. I think you could spend a week touring breweries and visiting tap rooms and not even get to half of them. This is a family trip with the wife and kids, so I probably won't be able to get to more than a few, but I hope to at least bring back a pretty nice haul of bottles with me when I return.

As far as my local sources, around Owensboro it's not great. A couple of liquor stores have started to step up their game as far as craft beers, but selection still lacks in comparison to what I've seen other places. Luckily my job has me travel to Cincy fairly often so I usually try to pick up some beer while I'm there.

There is a Kroger at Montgomery / Kemper which is close to my office that actually has a pretty good selection. Can usually get any local beers there. I like thata they sell singles so I can try something without having to invest in a whole 6 or 12 pack. Only drawback is when I get something I really like, I can't get anymore until I get back up there. I also sometimes stop at the Liquor Barn in Louisville that is near 71 / Snyder. Really wish Owensboro would get one of those.

Wrigley's Tap Room, downtown Corbin.

We were at a Tap Takeover Wednesday night and some friends were telling us Traverse City has a kayak brewery tour. Definitely going to look into that.

I'm going to Maine this summer for a race. Plan is to drive and take some extra time to hit up breweries. Should be amazing.

Western Michigan has some cool spots regarding microbrews I recommend.

Also if anyone is ever in Cleveland go to the Ohio City district. Tourists want to visit Great Lakes brewery , but I'm not big on them. There is a microbrew a block away called Market Garden Brewery , awesome in house selection. They don't sell in stores yet but my Growlers get filled there often.

I wasn't very big on Great Lakes either.

I'd also highly recommend Fat Head's in Cleveland. We went to their Brew Pub. Great beers and fantastic food as well.

Nice place. Went last night. Had a flight, beer cheese burger, and fries.

Flip Daddy's usually has a nice selection on tap, I just think they are a little pricey.

There's a small liquor store about a mile from my house in Taylor Mill that has a pretty solid craft selection. Only downside is they don't do the build your own six-packs. Picked up some Lagunitas A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' this weekend there.

Also tried the Sam Adams Nitro IPA....Didn't think the nitro would make that much of a difference in taste. Still solid, just not what I was expecting.
