April 5, 201610 yr According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Bengals worked out former Giants wideout Hakeem Nicks today. Nicks caught seven passes in his six-game reunion with the Giants last year, after his disappointing 2014 stint with the Colts. In fact, it’s been a really long time since the 28-year-old former first-rounder has really done anything to help a team. He hasn’t registered as many as 60 passes or 900 receiving yards since 2011. The Bengals could probably use another veteran option, after losing Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu and bringing in Brandon LaFell. It’s just unclear if Nicks can be one, or just another guy they’re looking at like Mike Williams. Bengals kick the tires on veteran wideout Hakeem Nicks | ProFootballTalk
April 5, 201610 yr Author So we signed LaFell and we are kicking the tires on Mike Williams and Hakeem Nicks... Is this a lack of confidence in guys like Alford and Wright? Does it reflect a concern about available options in the draft? One thing is for sure, the Bengals are going to have a lively competition for the #2 and #3 WR positions.
April 5, 201610 yr I really thought Nicks would be solid in Indy and he didn't do much. I'm intrigued but I think he's out of gas. Somebody mentioned Boldin in another thread. I think I'd rather have Boldin over Nicks at this point, but neither do much to impress me. Boldin could be decent influence & nice complement a young WR from the draft.
April 6, 201610 yr Just due diligence nothing more IMO. If they sign him he falls into the 2nd WR battle.

There is absolutely zero reason for them to have much confidence in Wright as a receiver. He didn't do much in college and people let him catching a few passes his rookie year get to their head. Not to mention he is coming back from a serious knee injury. I would be surprised if he makes the team. I see him being like Shipley who the Bengals cut after his knee injury.

In other words, you believe the Bengals are in dire need of another starting quality WR?
April 7, 201610 yr In other words, you believe the Bengals are in dire need of another starting quality WR? Yes. People already know how I felt about Marvin Jones and how I believe he was a lot better than people think he was. Picking up LaFell was ok and would be a decent third wr and could even work in the slot. However I do think they need a lot better of a true number two receiver. Green and Eifert will still make this offense good but having a very good 2 wr like we had last year will be the difference between a good passing offense and a great passing offense imo.
April 10, 201610 yr Nicks unfortunately appears to be done. He's suffered some injuries that slowed him down significantly. He's no where near the player he was during the Giants last super bowl run.

I'm not sure that I would call the Bengals passing game great last year with both Jones and Sanu there. Good or very good, yes. Great, no. Jones was not retained because they have no intention of letting Eifert get away and couldn't afford all of them.

Jones was not retained because they have no intention of letting Eifert get away and couldn't afford all of them. And you couldn't be more wrong. The Bengals offered Jones the same deal the Lions did. The Bengals wanted him back and we're willing to pay him the 8 million a year he wanted. That should show people how much they valued Jones. I forget who it was but someone said you can tell what the coaches think of him by what they offered obviously the coaches thought he was worth the 8 million a year too. The only reason he left is because he wants a chance to possibly be a number 1 and get more targets. Don't know how you can not call the Bengals passing offense great last year when Andy Dalton was even in the mix for the map because of how well he and the passing offense did.
April 11, 201610 yr If you think they would rather have kept Jones over Eiffert I will disagree with you. But what do I know. The word great is way overused and again I would not call their passing offense great. When I think of a great passing offense I think of the Colts with Manning, Brady with Welker, Gronk, Hernandez, Faust and the Chargers, The Fun Bunch. Marino and the Marks. I'm not putting the Bengals with those.

I'm not putting the Bengals with those. True why accept facts when you have an opinion. It's a fact the Bengals offered Jones the same amount the Lions offered him. Which was 8 million a year. I am not exactly sure how you can argue that because that is a fact. So not sure how you can say the Bengals didn't really try that hard to get him back. They didn't get outbid or anything. They wanted him back and tried to get him back, he simply wanted a chance to be a number 1 wr that is all. Now where did you come up with that I said the bengals would rather keep him over Eifert, not sure where you came up with that. It's a simple fact that you are ignoring. The Bengals were willing to pay him and possibly lose a few of the defensive guys they signed to keep him. Which signing him wouldn't have stopped them from extending Eifert too. So no idea where you are coming up with this stuff from. But hey as I said why state facts when someone has an opinion...
April 11, 201610 yr Think you're taking my comments wrong and if I typed it wrong, my apology. I know they wanted Jones back and made a nice offer for sure. To keep him however, they were going to have to overpay because of his desire to be a 1. They were not going to overpay though. I think ultimately they'd overpay for Eifert over jones. Eifert is a rarer commodity than Jones. I do worry however about Green staying healthy and Eifert for that matter. Also, I'm still not sold on Green's ability in big games. He sure has games where there is little production.
