Should the Bengals consider trading up to get their #1 or #2 WR?

Featured Replies

Something like you trade your 1st Round Pick and your 5th Round Pick to move up and get one of the top two WRs on your board.

Is this a potential good move for the Bengals?

I wouldn't, not that big of a need. Basically you'd be trading up for a 3 "go to" receiver. Even a couple of spots is a stretch. The Bengals draft well in the late rounds. I wouldn't want to give up a five for a not that great a need position.

The Bengals do not have a #2 WR on the roster. And no guarantee Eifert and Green stay healthy.

Not familiar with what's available. How deep is the draft and are there any real impact wr's out there?

I count Eifert as their second "go to" receiver. You don't draft for potential injuries. I wouldn't do it. The #2 WR will be lucky to get the 65 catches Jones got last year. Not worth moving up IMO.

I get that about Eifert but opposing defenses will be able to better defend Eifert and Green if the Bengals don't have a #2 WR on the field. In other words, it has a trickle down effect and it hurts our offense.

I agree with Bengal that we don't need to trade up. My reasoning is I don't think there is a clear cut can't miss wr in this bunch. Right now the one who people say is the best only runs a 4.6 and I worry about his getting seperation ability in the NFL. The Bengals are in a spot where I think they will end up with one of the top 4 wrs in the draft and imo there is not much seperation between the 4. So no need to give up a draft pick, if they even draft a wr in the first round. Which I do think they draft one unless a very talented guy at another position slips down to them that they have ranked high.

Wouldn't you agree that the Bengals Board is different than what the experts say so if their number one guy is slipping to spot within reach of a 5th or 6th round pick you pull the trigger?

Nope. The Bengals have gotten to where they are at now by not reaching and by sticking to their board and letting the chips for where they will. Also I don't think the Bengals will have any of the top 4 wrs ranked that much higher than any of the other 4 where they feel it's worth giving up a draft pick to get the guy.

Thanks fc.

Anyone else have an opinion either way?

I wouldn't trade up for a WR, in fact, there are very few instances where I'd trade up for anything short of a QB (and maybe a can't-miss LT). I'm not sure the difference between Treadwell and Doctson is all that vast, as an example. I'd much rather have Doctson and Uzomah, or Doctson and McCarron, or Doctson and Burkhead (:bunny:), or Doctson and Marvin Jones (ironically, himself a 5th round pick) than just Treadwell (whom I LOVE, but he isn't Calvin Johnson).

Agree. Unless he's an elite guy, no sense in trading up. You can find the same size and speed with a mid round pick.

None in this draft, IMO. I might have traded up for Cooper last year if it was a strong position of need. Nobody in this draft fits that bill. Treadwell is the best, IMO.
