John Foster Fraley job to lose.

After only two years on the job, Pulaski County High School boys basketball coach Jimmy Voight has been let go from his position.

 

On Monday, Voight found out he would not be brought back next year as the Maroons’ boys basketball head coach.

 

Pulaski County High School principal Rodney McAninch stated that he wanted the Maroons’ boys basketball program to take a different direction.

 

“As an administrative team, myself and athletic director Brian Miller, we review the performances of each athletic program at the end of the year,” McAninch stated. “In regards to Coach (Jimmy) Voight and the boys basketball program, we decided we were going to go in a different direction and go ahead and seek a different coach for the team. I feel like this is the most prudent course to take at this time.”

 

“I am sure Coach Voight will do well where ever he goes in the future,” McAninch said. “He is a good man, has done a good job for us, and he has done everything we have asked him to do in the classroom. But in the terms of the overall position of the program, we have chose to take it in a different direction.”

 

Voight compiled a 35-25 record in two seasons at the helm of the Pulaski boys basketball program. Last year, the Maroons ended the season with a 19-12 mark and captured the 47th District crown – making it six in a row after former Pulaski coach Al Gover won five district crowns in a row before his departure from the Maroons’ boys’ basketball coaching position.

 

After winning 10 of their first 14 games of the season this past winter, the Maroons closed out the season losing 9 of their final 15 games. The Maroons lost their last three games of the year, which included a first round season-ending elimination in the 47th District Tournament.

 

Voight has accumulated 478 wins in nearly 33 years of coaching at both the high school level and the collegiate level.

 

Voight is only the fifth boys basketball coach at Pulaski County High School in nearly a 40-year span.

 

Dave Fraley coached the Maroons from 1977 to 1995, Dave Schulz went from 1995 to 1996, Al Gover from 1996 to 2001, Fraley again from 2001 to 2006, Mark Flynn from 2006 to 2009, and then Gover again from 2009 to 2014.

 

Pulaski will now be on the hunt for potentially their sixth coach in a period of five decades.

 

“I will be asking our athletic director Brian Miller to create a hiring committee after that job opening as been posted, and then we will look at all the applicants and make a determination on who the best next candidate might be to take that position,” McAninch stated.

 

The job opening is usually posted for at least 30 days before the hiring process begins. In the Maroons’ last boys basketball coaching change from Gover to Voight in 2014, the total process took exactly five weeks.

I've been told that folks there aren't happy with him. Not sure how true that is which is why I am asking now. Lots of chatter in the 12th Region going on right now.

I'd be shocked if Steve Wright ended up at PC, but I wouldn't be shocked if he was somewhere else next year.

I think he'll definitely be somewhere but we'll see.

Heard another rumor tonight that if Wright is gone, all 3 could stay at SW. Waiting to see who the new coach is going to be IF Wright is in fact out.
