Red Bird.

True. They have a Bell County address, I believe, but are in Clay County.

Perhaps. The list only gives credit for region titles from 1927 to present. Before 1927 the alignments and qualification procedures for the state tournament were a little bit different.

I see,I know Owensboro counts 1917 as a state championship, they had that old trophy in the gym at the celebration last year.I could not believe how old that trophy was and still have it.

You're missing Male's 75 state title.

Dang! You're right. And that actually puts them ahead of Henry Clay and into 3rd place.

True. There was a "state tournament" in both 1916 and 1917, but they weren't sponsored by the KHSAA (the organization didn't begin until the next year). The first several state tournaments, pre-KHSAA and after, were actually invitationals where schools were invited to participate.

I never saw South Laurel on there and I know they are way better than some on the list.

Opened in 1992. Not been around long enough to be on this list. And I know some folks consider South Laurel and Laurel County to be the same school but officially the aren't so I didn't combine their numbers.

No Wayne County in the top 50?

Just on the edge. Wayne County spent so many years in a district with Somerset and Monticello that their success in the 1950s and 1960s just wasn't what it has been the last 30 years or so.

Pretty neat walk thru KY basketball history, thanks for all the work.

Pretty impressive showing for Ballard, which has been in existence for less than 50 years.

Amazing list. The Ken Burns of basketball can be found on BP! Really good stuff.
