March 14, 201610 yr I didn't watch this yet but I'm wondering if they made any mention of Nifong's current situation? I know that after he was disbarred there was a civil case brought against him and that he was trying to divest himself of all assets and declare bankruptcy so he wouldn't he to pay a judgement. That's the last I heard. Anything else? I don't remember that part if it was included but there was a blurb at the end about how this wasn't the only case where he was proven to be corrupt. The Innocence Project is currently petitioning to open all of his former cases.
March 14, 201610 yr The scary part is if it happened today the reaction would be much worse. Oh my. No question.
March 14, 201610 yr There's a difference between healthy cynicism and knee jerk condemnation. Ask people what they remember about Ferguson and many will say it's where a white cop killed and unarmed black person. Correct. Following either side blindly is not smart.
March 14, 201610 yr The scary part is if it happened today the reaction would be much worse. I don't know. 2006 wasn't that long ago and I remember all of this like it was yesterday. It got pretty bad and as a Duke fan this was something that was talked about daily with no escape from it. There are still people to this day that believe they raped that girl even though the evidence says otherwise. I remember it being really really intense and heated for quite some time over this.

That's the last I heard. Anything else? The 3 Duke students falsely accused are active members of The Innocence Project in which they search for cases of people falsely accused and work to get them released and their names cleared. They found that Nifong had another case of someone who spent time in jail after being prosecuted by Nifong who didn't have evidence showing he committed the crime. As a result they are trying to get all of Nifong's convictions reviewed in an effort to see how many more have been falsely imprisoned by Nifong. The detective who wrote up the report on the Duke rape case, Mark Gottlieb, committed suicide in 2014. He left the police force in 2008.

Twitter changed the outrage mob and it wasn't there in 2006 . 2006 was around the start of Internet outrage but it's on steroids now.

It is very cool and big of those 3 to turn a negative into a positive. That cop man.....
March 14, 201610 yr Author Crazy part is Nifong only spent 24 hours in jail. That's when you know the system is wrecked . He tried to charge 3 men with murder and he knew they didn't do it. 24 hours.
March 14, 201610 yr Author For the record if throwing a party with dancers seems out of the norm for college students , we had different college experiences.
March 17, 201610 yr Crazy part is Nifong only spent 24 hours in jail. That's when you know the system is wrecked . He tried to charge 3 men with murder and he knew they didn't do it. 24 hours. He was so smug at check -in. "Here for 24 ,hours, Mike Nifong."
March 17, 201610 yr I wonder how much the parents paid for defense. The young kid was a star, really paid off for the defense.
March 17, 201610 yr I wonder how much the parents paid for defense. The young kid was a star' date=' really paid off for the defense.[/quote'] It took over a year , right? $100k?
March 17, 201610 yr They never prosecuted the girl the lied about everything either did they? Don't believe so. It later caught up with her as she went to jail for attempted murder for a while, then later convicted of 2nd degree murder.
March 28, 201610 yr College athletes have to know this and behave in a way to protect themselves. It is way too easy to get caught up in something negative and the old saying of being in the wrong place at the wrong time can have disastrous consequences. Used to say the same thing to the undergrads in our Fraternity that I advised for 5 years. Don't put yourself in the position/situation and you won't have to deal with this type of situation.
