That is an understatement. Given what has been poured into the F-35 program at this point we probably could have gotten both the F-22 and the F-23 and still saved money given how much funding has been poured into this bureaucratic boondoggle.

F-35 Gen3 helmets are being redesigned. Seems the 5lb weight of them has snapped the neck of smaller test dummies during ejection test. They currently cost $400,000 but with a heads up displays, targeting and night vision incorporated. They also allow the pilot to look straight down "Through" the body of the plane to see what ever is below it.

 

Hopefully the Tech on the F35 is way beyond Russian and Chinese fighters as their next gen stealth planes are already listed to out fly the F35.

Well the F-35 isn't as stealthy or manuverable as the F-22 so I wouldn't have much faith in it.

Crazy thing is that the F-23 was stealthier and faster than the F-22 but wasn't as manueverable so the F-22 won. At this point we could have had both of these superior aircraft for what has been spent on this boondoggle.
