Maggie Jachimczuk is named 16th Region Tournament MVP.

Jachimczuk led Russell in scoring with 16 pts. Madison Darnell added 14.

 

Kristen Mayo led the Lady Raiders with a game high 23.

East Carter's two lowest scoring games of the year came in two losses at the hands of the Lady Devils in Dec. 49-41 and today 45-41.

Based on the fact that East Carter is healthy now and they destroyed Russell by 36 a month ago, I thought the Lady Devils would be outgunned in today's game. Glad I was wrong.

Russell didn't exactly set the nets on fire with their shooting percentage(40%), but East Carter was really cold today, shooting 11 of 44(25%).

With East Carter only losing one senior(Mandy Langstaff) and Russell returning literally everybody, there's a pretty good chance these two teams could decide the region again next season.

Not trying to be abrasive here, and congrats to the lady devils on winning the region, but has East Carter vastly underachieved in the past couple of seasons, post season speaking of course?

Speaking on this year I would have to say absolutely yes, without a doubt!! I would agree with you, Russell is talented but to me East Carter was by far the better team this year. The 2 years before that I would say no, them and Ashland were just 2 really good teams that played coin-flip games for 2 years, I believe Ashland was in the final 4 two years ago if I remember correctly

Didn't realize but the last time East played in the Championship in 2014 they also lost Ashland by the exact same score 45-41.
