Can anybody provide specifics on the decision of the 10TH Region to vacate their traditional format of W/Th/F/S or was it T/W/F/S format and moving all games to school nights and vacating the wonderful Fri...semi-finals and Sat...finals dates? Just seems problematic, unnecessary and unwise to create 4 nights of late basketball for students and fans that have to work the next day. In fairness to MoCo, this only compounds the dissatisfaction of Regional fans traveling to Mt. Sterling for the tourney.

Girls state starts next week so they would be MT FS. Most regions go with a MT FS format for the first state tourney (girls or boys) and a WT MT for the state tournament that starts second.

Girls state tournament is the biggest reason.

 

I also think boys tournament semifinals and finals can be played easier on Monday/Tuesday and still draw big crowds. Having the girls semifinals and finals on Friday/Saturday helps draw more fans that might not be willing to come during the week.

Surprised at reasoning and it does appear rational at the expense of historical big Fri/Sat gates for boys. I would suggest an alternative that IMO could work well with one site (A) for both, or different sites (B).

Mon.....Girls 1st round (location A or B)

Tues... Boys 1st round (location A)

Weds....Girls 1st round (location A or B)

Thurs....Boys 1st round (location A)

Fri........Girls semis (A or B)

Sat.......Boys semis (A)

Sunday..@ 3:00/ 5:00 Both girls and boys Championship Sunday at one location. 4 different teams playing for Championships at one location. Guarantees great crowds with unforeseen weather conflicts better managed with daytime event. Thoughts.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Sunday finals (or tournament games in general). I'm also not a fan of two finals on the same day. It seems like you rush through the first game's celebration to get the second game started. To me, winning the regional championship should mark the end of the day, not "hustle up and get off the floor so the boys can play."

Due to weather, 10th had a split session on Saturday a while back. I think it was like 1 and 2:30 and then 6 and 7:30 or something like that. It worked well. Allowed people to grab a bite to eat and then get back for the games.

So next year it's the 38th (G) and 37th (B). Will be interesting to see which sites get selected.

Boys will more than likely go back to Mason. Not sure what the 38th will do for girls. Harrison has most seating among the 4 schools.

Thought for sure the Fieldhouse would get boy's. Wasn't for sure on Harrison hosting girls.

Have never seen seating as a problem for girls regionals.

Would love to see this adopted every season regardless of where its at. Fun filled day of basketball and would create revenue for local business. Grab some food between sessions and then again on the way home. Seemed the Fieldhouse was packed for the entire day as Im almost certain it would lure more casual fans to Mt. Sterling as well. What better way to spend a Saturday than in a gym watching a regional tournament.
