Agree I'd like to hear more details from Trump, but anything he would do would surpass the last eight years. Obama hasn't had a meaningful conversation with anyone who doesn't totally agree with him in 8 years? He couldn't get a consensus alone in an empty room.

In the old days, politicians would appoint "blue-ribbon commissions" to investigate this or that. All Trump needs to do is get "some really talented people" in a room for half an hour and bingo! -- problem solved. The scary part is people actually believe his schtick.

So who collects that flat tax and regulates it? We abolish the IRS, but then just have a similar agency with different regulations? Its on a state/local level? Are we equipped for that? Sounds like a mess.

I think it would depend on the plan, but in general an IRS (although infinitely smaller) would be in charge of collecting the $$'s. A flat tax would need some entity to handle the cash, and a national sales tax would need to be sent somewhere similar to state sales taxes.

I thought Turbotax was supposed to eliminate a lot of this drudgery. I wouldn't know. I still do my taxes pencil-on-paper. Still, I'd much rather have an an income tax as opposed to a national sales tax or flat tax. If you want to feel the bite of an out-of-control sales tax, live in Washington state for a few months.

Hillary is borrowing from Rubio's robotic playbook. I've heard her make the same comments in about 10 different places in the past few days, "We don't have to make America great, it's already great!" Followed by a sequence of more canned comments.

For Kasich, it at least somewhat makes sense that he is waiting for Ohio. Or fighting for the VP spot.

It's been a common theme of the flat-tax or national sales tax supporters; who favor a very simple system that doesn't require a masters in accounting to fill out a simple tax return. They do away with most deductions and tax anywhere from one rate to a couple levels sliding upward as your income rises.

 

Obama really helped this cause along by using the IRS as a punitive weapon for those that politically oppose him. Would save a ton of money, along with abolishing multiple, arguably useless Federal Agencies.

Washington state certainly is more "progressive" than our beloved Kentucky, but, unfortunately, the top four states with the highest combined state-local sales tax rates are all SEC states: Tennessee (9.45 percent), Arkansas (9.26 percent), Alabama (8.91 percent), Louisiana (8.91 percent). Washington state is fifth at (8.89 percent).

Nice round up of what happened yesterday from the NYT.

 

Cruz had a pretty good night in the fact he stayed alive, but this was supposed to be his night. Everybody sounded like they are taking this thing to the convention, which is not good for the GOP.

 

Bernie stayed relevant, which for my party is a good thing. Personally, Dems need to continue to talk about the issues that are important today and not slide into how to beat Trump.
