7th Region Draw

Featured Replies

Question to those following the 7th closely, if Ballard and Trinity meet at Valley in the semis, who is likely to win?

I don't profess to be a 7th region expert but B beat T 58-54 in the Louisville Invitation final in mid-January....at Valley. T lost their leading 3-point shooter, Lukas Burkman, to a broken foot about 3-4 games ago. T relies heavily on the 3-point shot. B -- IMO ---is not as strong as in years past but Chris Renner is an excellent coach and B has a balanced offense, in and out. Neither team will be too fazed by pressure. Both teams have good guards---for Ballard, Wilson and Alvey and for Trinity, King and Schmitt. I would give the slightest edge to Ballard.

Thanks, great info. Should be a great 7th Region Tourney.

Just read Jason Frakes tweet... The 7th is the only region with all teams participating having winning records.

I would think that is because of the way it is set up, every district has 2 good teams and two below avg. teams normally. the only exception as of late would be Ballard, Eastern, CAL, KCD, Walden. So they set it up to get the best 8 in the regional every year.

I have seen all of these teams play, some of them multiple times, and I have no idea who should be favored, or who will win. Just looking forward to watching it unfold.

Bottom is definitely the lesser of two evils, but this tournament is going to be wild. T plays solid defense to beat anyone one, but it just takes one player to get hot to carry a team. Ballard is Ballard, but I think Male could be dark horse to come out of this region. X has one of, if not the top player in the Region in Connor McKim. If he continues to produce at a high level, it gives X an opportunity to make it to Rupp.

Should be a great tournament.

In your style, I take Ts coaching over Bs any day.

Male can win the region if they play D and figure out how to get get Cook shots.

When was the last time X won region?

Sometime in the 90s. While Scott Padgett was there, I'd imagine.

Waggener over X

McKim is held under 20 Waggener controls the glass. Waggener has won the pass two game including regional and a game earlier this year. as already mentioned in this post, Hobbs is playing for Waggener he is the difference maker on that team.

Ballard over Central

Central has been up and down all year, they are playing very well but so is Ballard. if Ballard does not get in to big of a hole to start the game they will win by 12.

Manual over Eastern

I could see this one coming down to who has the ball last. Eastern does not really have an identity this year, they tried slowing it down I could see them pressing and trying to speed up manual. Manual will execute its half court screening motion offense and catch Eastern in multiple switch. Eastern has not taken advantage of their height difference most of the season.

Male over Trinity

Best 1st round game in the state, who ever wins this will win the region. If Trinity shots close to 60% from 3 again like in the district championship game they will win. if they come back to none curry like shooting 38% I feel male will take this game. Male has the best player in the region and with 8 seniors and 5 juniors I see Male winning this in a close one. The one thing that could really change this game is how it is called. Male only shoots 65% from the line while trinity is the top in the state.
