Yes they did call a foul on that play. Once she learns the game, i agree she will be a force. She is every bit of 220, but more like 6' at the moment.

 

Also, I find it interesting that when HC loses, we talk about the winning and it's star. So I will go ahead and say it. HC came out and made a statement, the NDA battled back. HC coach made an adjustment, the NDA didn't have an answer for Z. Beal. She showed up tonight and played like she is capable. She also guarded the girl that torched them last time and for the most part completely shut her down. The entire HC team played very good defense tonight and they team rebounded with NDA (which if memory serves right, they got blasted on the boards in the previous meeting). Outside of J. Martin hitting 3s from the parking lot in the second half the defense was solid all night. I would say J. Martin was so deep I would probably not have guarded her out there either, but after the 2nd one, okay, this is range, go guard it. ;-).

 

Overall, the game was tremendous and very exciting and entertaining to watch.

While Jenna Martin took (and missed) a couple long threes late in the 4th, she only had 2 made threes on the night and they were both right at the 3 point line. She didn't hit either of the 2 from deep in the parking lot as you are saying. The girl I think you are referring to that was hitting them from 23 or 24 feet out was Kennedy Baugh. She hit 5 threes on the night and really was the reason ND was able to keep it close till the end. I think Baugh should get a lot of credit last night as far as the ND offense. The HC defense all night guarding Martin was the key. After she had 28 in the first meeting in Park Hills, she only managed 11 points last night and the Holy Cross defensive adjustments by the coaching staff should get credit for that. She is a tremendous player and holding her to only 11 was the key to the game. Zyah Beal and Aleah Tucker were tremendous last night for Holy Cross.

Regarding Beal, she is a player and she took charge when HC was struggling to score.

 

With respect to 8th grader Chames (who will not be 14 until July), the word "strong" is used both by me and national scouting services. I did not use it, nor, I infer, did they, to mean "best". She is very strong and a ferocious rebounder, but her complete skill set including shooting, ballhandling and man to man defense is not on a level with, say, Lexi Arden (West Virginia) or Sydney Parrish (Indiana) who are probably the two top ranked bigs for that age group.

I agree with BN24, the threes that Baugh hit were ridiculous range, but the ones that Martin hit were impressive because I didn't think she could even see the rim when she let them go; she was very, very well defended.

I stand corrected. In my previous post I incorrectly said J. Martin, I have come to know it was K. Baugh playing deep ball. Sorry Ms. Baugh, you deserve credit for those shots.

M. Chames needs some work in areas, but once she gets the individual tutoring, she will be a dominate force. She plays hard so if she works hard at acquiring the other skill set the progress will come.

I'm also going to give credit where credit is due...Beal guarded Maritin and she was scoreless...Yes, It was in fact an entire team effort with some rotations and yes they all battled each play on both ends... But shutting Martin down completely in 1st, was Beal....Point blank... as a team, they held her to 11!!. I know, I know, it pains some people to give credit to any other kid than the usual names They always throw out during/after every game or here on BGP...But like egs300 said, NDA truly did not have an answer for Z. Beal last night....Last night, wasn't a matter of taking charge when "the others struggled to score".. It was just her playing her game...She played very strong and pushed through where some couldn't, but call it what you will. I'm happy for her and it should be recognized. But again, last night was truly a team effort, that lead to the win! Awesome play by both teams!

I see 4-5 posts talking about Beal and how well she played. I also see posts about Baugh and Chames (not the stars either). So I'm not sure where you're going with this. If we were talking about all the stars, I think McClendon would be involved and no one has said a word about her. Are you just really referring to Martin getting some discussion?
