Elliott at home is always tough. Great home court advantage. Basketball means a lot to the community and it's a mad house when they play.

 

Congrats to those kids. Anyone who is shocked is remembering that Elliot is the defending region champ.

To people without a natural rooting interest, West Carter would be a great team to pull for. .

Morgan has 5 Sr's and 1 So that get playing time. 3 Of the Sr's can score and the Soph. The other 2 Sr's are defensive minded players and average less than 2.0 points for the year and their career. The Soph hurt his ankle against Rowan and I do not believe was close to 100%. The other Sr that can score was not playing good defensive last night and was replaced. Who do you want shooting your shots? Your best two players or your kids averaging less than 2.0 ppg? The coach can't go out there and play for them. Not sure about the underperforming comment. The region this year was very balanced and overall Morgan had a good record vs the region. Last night was Elliott's night. Another night it could have been Morgan's.

 

By underperform, I mean MC has lost the first game of the district 77% of the time over the last 11 years since they joined the 62nd district. And they have a cumulative winning percentage of 39% for district regular season games during those 11 years. If your goal is to win, he has fallen short over a substantial period of time. Personally, I like to win.

And if you look at the season stats, Ryan Adams had the highest FG % (of those taking 100+ attempts) at 45.10%. Perry was second at 44.80%. Banks was fifth at a horrendous 36.6%. Evans was 43%, and Prater was 41.5%. So, I ask the logical question, could they have won vs Elliott with better ball movement and shot selection? Yes, they could have. The coach failed to prepare his team to execute a proper game plan, and I think this is why they lost. And this trend has been consistent over the last 11 years. RE:winning % vs. peers. This is why he should be replaced.

Could be worse. Could be rooting for Bath, Menifee or Rose Hill who have obviously struggled more than Morgan. If you are thinking Morgan will get a new coach well that is not going to happen. Perry is there as long as he wants to be.

When Morgan came in 10 years ago they were expected to dominate. That just doesn't happen. Has only happened once over the last 20-30 years and that was the Elliott super team. Outside of that, no game at the 62nd tourney is won before it is played. Just the way it is.

As far as Perry, he seems to do a good job. To me, Morgan had the better player or two but Elliott has more players that contribute scoring. More balanced, which always helps in a one loss and you're done scenario.

 

Morgan has nothing to be ashamed about. Great season. To slam the coaches or players is an insult to the success they've had this year playing the same way.

At 23% district tourney game win-rate, they have been the bottom of the barrel over an 11 year period. Lots of excuses can be made, but I would prefer a winning coach, not a losing one. Trust me, if I was there, my analysis would be much more in depth. I only saw one game this year.
