The televised funeral services for Richard Nixon, Betty Ford, Lady Bird Johnson (which I watched) were also Christian but included heartfelt eulogies by laypeople. Today's mass had no such lay tributes, because such are not permitted. Strictly by-the-book Roman Catholic. Also, during the hour or so that I tuned in, I didn't notice any crowd-scan closeups of Mrs. Scalia, Biden or Cheney.

You're right, balancing my checkbook is about as high as I go mathwise. But the 60-year deal was mentioned by someone else first. Then when I investigated what I thought to be an odd number of years to go back (60), I discovered that the most recent precedent was in fact 62 years ago. In other words, how convenient of the Obama bashers to only go back 60 years instead of 62!

 

Obama was correct to avoid the service today. This was strictly a religious service intended mainly for the family ... which I respect. However, this would have been much more watchable had some of his lay friends been able to address the crowd.

There was no recount. Some newspapers speculated but the true recount wasn't completed due to the Supreme Court's ruling.

How the hell do you make that connection? He's a better fit? For what?

Why in the world would anyone criticism him for going? I know in your mind he can never do wrong.

I noticed in the poll you voted No, that he should not go to the funeral. Care to tell us why, according to your vote, he should not attend the funeral of a sitting Supreme Court Justice as every President for over the past 60+ years as. This is the same President that went to Walter Cronkite's funeral by the way.

 

 

I didn't vote in your poll. You might as well have asked, "Should the President resign?" You would have gotten about the same 90% - 10% split. All political polls on here are as predictable as a Trump supporter thinking that Obama is a Muslim and science is an invention of the devil.
